Se han investigado y formado tableros de referencia en el laboratorio mediante tecnicas convencionales, utilizando particulas y trozos de carozo de mafz de distintas granulometrfas, obtenidas mediante la trituracion de los carozos de las mazorcas en un molino electrico y su posterior filtrado en una columna de tamices 15 que lo separaron segun el tamano de las particulas y al mismo tiempo purifica el material eliminando impurezas. En algunos ensayos se han utilizado las particulas y trozos de los carozos mezclados con fibra de madera que se obtuvo mediante un proceso de desfibrado mecanico partiendo de madera de pino y eucalipto. En estas experiencias, los espesores buscados en los tableros fueron entre 10 mm y 18 mm, 20 y se utilizaron tres tipos de aglomerantes: resinas UF, resinas MUF y MDI. Las primeras resinas se utilizaron en niveles del orden del 12% en su forma catalizada sobre base seca, y el MDI se utilizo a un nivel del 3% tambien en base seca. Las humedades del material oscilaron entre el 10% y el 15%. Las temperaturas de presado estuvieron entre 160 QC y 200 9C. Dependiendo del tipo de tablero a 25 fabricar y de las caracterfsticas, granulometrfas y humedades de los materiales base, se consiguieron excelentes resultados aplicando desde uno hasta cuatro ciclos de prensado. Las presiones variaron desde 8 kg/cm2 hasta 40 kg/cm2, dependiendo de las caracterfsticas de la mezcla y del ciclo de prensado.
