Abstract

The pad comprises a metal support plate 1 provided with a plurality of holes 5 with a friction material 4 pressed onto and bonded to one side of the plate 1 and a sound deadening material 2 pressed onto and bonded to the other side of the plate 1, either or both materials extending into the holes. The sound deadening material preferably comprises a synthetic plastics fibre reinforced material and the binder of the friction material includes the same synthetic plastics material as the sound deadening material to effect a bond between the two materials as they are pressed into the holes 5 on forming the brake pad. The friction material 4 may have a preponderant quantity of the metal of which the support plate is made. The holes 5 are shown formed with encircling flanges or collars 6 on alternate sides to resist shearing of the materials. Further details and modifications are given.
