Abstract
The invention proposes a masonry block which is suitable for constructing a wall or the like and has a main surface (1) on which there are formed, at a distance from the edges of the masonry block, at least two elevated protrusions (2) and an opposite main surface (4) on which there are formed, at a distance from the edges of the masonry block, at least two corresponding recesses (5). The protrusions and recesses are arranged such that two masonry blocks of identical construction can be positioned with their ends one against the other and the protrusions uppermost and a third masonry block of identical construction can be positioned on the other two blocks, one or more of its recesses receive one or more of the protrusions of one of the two masonry blocks and one or more of its recesses receive one or more protrusions of the other of the two blocks, as a result of which the blocks are interlocked with respect to one another. The masonry block is characterised in that i) the sides (6, 3) of the recesses and protrusions run essentially perpendicularly to the main surfaces, and ii) in that the recesses and protrusions are arranged and dimensioned such that, if the recesses are filled to the top with mortar and the masonry block is positioned, as above, over two masonry blocks of identical construction, a sufficiently large volume is displaced, with the result that a connecting location of predeterminable thickness is formed between the masonry-block courses.
