Abstract
Medio de crecimiento para plantas producido a partir de una espuma de poliuretano que tiene una resiliencia (medida según la norma ISO 8307 con muestras secas y sin triturar) de como máximo el 40%, una desviación por carga de compresión (CLD) al 40% (medida según la norma ISO 3386/1 durante el primer ciclo con muestras secas y sin triturar) de al menos 16 kPa, una densidad de núcleo de espumación libre (medida según la norma ISO 845 en condiciones atmosféricas sin uso de agentes de soplado auxiliares) de al menos 20 kg/m3 y un aumento de volumen en la saturación de agua de como máximo el 25% (medido según el método dado a conocer en la descripción).

Valores de pF0 y de pF1 tomados de la curva de pF son adecuados para calcular la retención de agua y por tanto la disponibilidad de agua en una espuma de poliuretano. pF0 y pF1 se definen adicionalmente como

Vf, Vu y Vr-1 se determinan de la siguiente manera: se corta una muestra de espuma para obtener dimensiones indicadas tales como 100x120x75 mm o 100x120x60 mm (longitud x ancho x altura). Por tanto el Vf de la muestra es de 900 ml o 720 ml. El peso seco de la muestra de espuma se determina a 105ºC. Luego se sumerge la muestra de
20 espuma durante un periodo predefinido de 6 horas a presión atmosférica y 23ºC en un baño de agua de tal manera que 1 cm de la muestra en la dirección de altura se extiende por encima de la superficie de agua.
Luego se sumerge la muestra completamente en el baño de agua durante 18 horas a presión atmosférica y 23ºC. Posteriormente se coloca la muestra sobre un tamiz con una malla de 0,5-1 cm a la misma presión y temperatura y 25 se deja que libere agua durante 30 minutos. Finalmente se determina de nuevo el peso de la muestra de espuma (que contiene el agua restante) y se calcula Vu, suponiendo una densidad del H2O de 1 kg/dm3.
Luego se coloca la muestra saturada con agua durante 24 h en un entorno cerrado a 23ºC y se aplica una presión subatmosférica a la superficie inferior de la muestra (por ejemplo hasta una presión de columna de H2O de -10 cm 30 medida a partir de la altura media de la muestra de espuma con el fin de medir pF1).
Finalmente se determina de nuevo el peso de la muestra y se calcula el volumen Vr-1 de agua retenida en la muestra (suponiendo una densidad de agua de 1 kg/dm3).
35 Un dispositivo que puede usarse para medir valores de pF y adecuado para crear un entorno subatmosférico en la superficie inferior de la muestra es el denominado Sandbox que puede obtenerse de la empresa holandesa Eijkelkamp (www.eijkelkamp.com) y se usa para determinaciones de pF.
El cálculo del contenido en agua en base a volumen también se describe en la norma ISO 11274 para muestras de
40 tierra tras someter las muestras de tierra a una presión métrica (véase la sección 5.5) y también puede aplicarse para calcular el contenido en agua en las muestras de espuma de la presente invención. La presión métrica se refiere en el presente documento a la subpresión aplicada en cm de columna de H2O.

Ejemplo 8: resultados de crecimiento
5 Se cultivaron semillas de pepino en la espuma comparativa 1 así como en las espumas 7 y 8 que son según la invención (véase la tabla 2 para formulaciones). Tras 21 días se cortaron las plantas por encima de la espuma de sustrato y luego se determinó el peso de las plantas (véase la tabla 8). Las espumas según la invención dan plantas con peso de planta aumentado significativo en comparación con plantas cultivadas sobre la espuma comparativa 1.
