Abstract

The invention comprises testosterone derivatives of the general formula: <FORM:0862531/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents hydrogen or an acyl group, and the preparation thereof by reacting testosterone with chloral or chloral hydrate to form testosterone-chloral-hemiacetal i.e., when R represents hydrogen, and then, if desired, acylating this compound to form compounds in which R represents an acyl group e.g., to form the acetate of testosterone-chloral-hemiacetal, or the corresponding formate, propionate or isobutyrate. Detailed examples are given.
