Abstract

The invention consists of a system and to the use of the system in inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP- AES). In this way, it is possible to measure the signal provided by the elements sodium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulphur (sulphate), carbon (bicarbonate) and the drop in the silver (chloride) signal, obtaining the ionic balance for a water sample. The developed system comprises three containers, namely: a first container for a solution containing silver nitrate, a second container for the sample, and a third container for a solution of nitric acid. The system also comprises a system of PTFE connections and capillaries, a peristaltic pump and a filter. In addition, the invention relates to the method performed by the system for simultaneously determining anions and cations by means of ICP-AES using the aforementioned system, as well as different novel uses of the system.
