Abstract
A process for preparing an oil soluble dispersion copolymer, characterized by polymerizing under the influence of a free radical initiator. (1) at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, polymerizable by free radicals, which imparts solubility in oil with one or both, as desired, of (2) at least one comonomer that does not communicate oil solubility (3) a polymerizable monovinylidene monomer, until 40% to 85% of the monomer or mixtures of monomers used have been polymerized, whereby a mixture of monomer or monomers and polymer is formed, adding to said mixture which is polymerized (4) at least one monovinylidene compound containing one or more trivalent nitrogen atoms substituted by at least two different substituents attached thereto, and the polymerization of the resulting mixture continuing, providing said compound (4) between 1% and 30% of the final copolymer weight.
