Abstract
Safety system for a nuclear reactor comprising: a stop relay with an excitation winding arranged to be normally energized from a first source of energy supply, and to, upon de-energizing, initiate the stop or cessation of reactor activity; at least one control relay arranged to be normally energized from one of two other interchangeable supply sources and to be de-energized upon abnormal operating conditions, which require stopping or cessation of reactor activity, said control relay having a normally open contact connected in series with the excitation winding of the stop relay; and a pair of normally energized relays disposed to de-energize as a consequence of abnormal conditions in the power supply or supply for the excitation of the control relay, and having respectively normally open contacts and normally closed contacts connected in series in a circuit remaining in parallel with those contacts of the control relay connected in series with the winding of said stop relay, that of the relays of said pair whose contact mentioned is normally open a delayed detachment time at least as long as the time inverted for switching said power supply sources to the control elevator whereby, during said switching, the stop relay is kept energized through said circuit in parallel, independently of the de-energization of the control relay.
