Si se enciende la primera lámpara de aceite (sector A de la fig. 1), se origina en el cilindro hueco (2) una corriente de aire dirigida hacia arriba. Dado que el segundo cilindro hueco (6) está conectado con el cilindro hueco (2) por medio del cuerpo (1), en dicho cilindro hueco (6) se genera una corriente de aire orientada hacia abajo. Si se enciende ahora la segunda lámpara de aceite en el interior del cilindro hueco (6), la llama de ese cilindro (6) arde hacia abajo.
