Abstract

LA PRESENTE INVENCION PROPORCIONA UN SISTEMA DE ESTERILIDAD MASCULINA CITOPLASMATICA (CMS) PARA PLANTAS, BASADO EN LA MODIFICACION DEL GENOMA DE PLASTIDOS. EL SISTEMA CMS COMPRENDE TRES TRANSGENES: UN GEN DE "ESTERILIDAD MASCULINA DE PLASTIDOS" (PMS), REGULADO POR UN GEN DE "ESTERILIDAD MASCULINA NUCLEAR" (NMS) Y UN GEN DE "RESTAURACION DE LA FERTILIDAD MASCULINA" (RMF). EL GEN PMS ES UN GEN INACTIVO QUE CODIFICA UN PRODUCTO DE GEN TOXICO O UN GEN EXPRESADO ACTIVAMENTE QUE CODIFICA UN PRODUCTO DE GEN ESENCIAL. EL GEN NMS ESTA CONTROLADO POR UN PROMOTOR ESPECIFICO DE ANTERA, Y CODIFICA UN POLIPEPTIDO DIRIGIDO A PLASTIDOS QUE REGULA EL GEN PMS, ACTIVANDO LA EXPRESION DEL GEN PMS TOXICO INACTIVO O REPRIMIENDO LA EXPRESION DEL GEN PMS ESENCIAL, QUE PROVOCA INCAPACIDAD O MUERTE PLASTIDICA Y CELULAR EN EL TEJIDO DE LAS ANTERAS, PREVINIENDO ASI LA FORMACION DE POLEN VIABLE. EL GEN RMF CODIFICA UN PRODUCTO DE GEN QUE IMPIDE QUE EL GEN NMS REGULE EL GEN PMS. LAS PLANTAS CON ESTERILIDAD MASCULINA CITOPLASMATICA SE OBTIENEN CRUZANDO UNA LINEA PARENTAL QUE CONTIENE EL GEN PMS CON UNA LINEA PARENTAL QUE CONTIENE EL GEN NMS. LA SEMILLA HIBRIDA CON FERTILIDAD MASCULINA SE OBTIENE A PARTIR DE CRUCES ENTRE LAS PLANTAS CON ESTERILIDAD MASCULINA CITOPLASMATICA Y UNA SEGUNDA LINEA PARENTAL QUE CONTIENE EL GEN RMF.
