Un procedimiento para neutralizar mercurio, que es peligroso para el medio ambiente, caracterizado por las siguientes etapas: - se vaporiza el mercurio y es succionado al interior de una cámara (17), que está dispuesta al vacío; - a la cámara (17), que tiene una temperatura adecuada, se le dosifica una cantidad bien equilibrada de selenio, que es vaporizado y mezclado con el gas de mercurio; - el gas mezclado es succionado al interior de un dispositivo de enfriamiento y precipita en forma de selenuro de mercurio no peligroso, en forma sólida.
