SEGUN LA INVENCION, EL CABEZAL DE LECTURA ES DEL TIPO MULTIPISTAS Y COMPRENDE UNA CAPA MAGNETOOPTICA (32) DESTINADA A LEER PISTAS MUY ESTRECHAS (ANCHURA Y PASO INFERIORES A 15 MICROMETROS), CARACTERIZADA POR EL HECHO DE QUE ES CONTINUA EN TODO EL ANCHO DEL CABEZAL. EL HAZ DE LECTURA INCIDE EN EL CABEZAL MUY CERCA DEL ENTREHIERRO LINEAL (34'') ADYACENTE A LA CAPA CONTINUA. ESTA ULTIMA ES PREFERENTEMENTE MAGNETICAMENTE ANISOTROPICA CON OBJETO DE LIMITAR LA DIAFONIA ENTRE LAS PISTAS. EL HAZ LUMINOSO (12), MODULADO POR LA CAPA MAGNETOOPTICA, INCIDE EN UN DETECTOR FOTOSENSIBLE LINEAL; EL SEGUIMIENTO DE LAS PISTAS, FACILITADO POR EL HECHO DE QUE LA CAPA ES CONTINUA, SE EFECTUA POR DESPLAZAMIENTO RELATIVO DEL DETECTOR CON RESPECTO A LA IMAGEN PROYECTADA POR EL HAZ EN EL DETECTOR, SIN DESPLAZAMIENTO DEL CABEZAL CON RESPECTO A LA CINTA MAGNETOFONICA.
