DE ACUERDO CON LA INVENCION, EL PU SE MEZCLA CON URANIO (U) MUY ENRIQUECIDO EN UNAS PROPORCIONES DE PESO APROXIMADAMENTE IGUALES. ESTA MEZCLA SE INCRUSTA EN UNA MATRIZ INERTE DE UN MATERIAL CUYOS COMPONENTES TIENEN UN NUMERO ATOMICO NOTABLEMENTE INFERIOR A 92. A CONTINUACION Y A PARTIR DE ESA MEZCLA, SE PRODUCEN VARILLAS DE COMBUSTIBLE RAL, CUYAS VARILLAS SE INSERTAN EN UN RAL EN LUGAR DE DETERMINADAS VARILLAS DE COMBUSTIBLE RAL NORMALES. EL TIEMPO DE IRRADIACION DE LAS VARILLAS DE COMBUSTIBLE QUE CONTIENEN PU ES NOTABLEMENTE MAYOR QUE EL DE LAS REFERIDAS VARILLAS NORMALES.
