Abstract

Process for decontaminating electrical transformers with PYRALENE (PCB), with substitution by a dielectric oil. Under conditions of complete isolation with respect to the environment surrounding the process, the PCB is extracted from the transformer 1 into one or more containers 2 until the transformer is completely empty. Next, a phase of washing is carried out using a solvent, such as trichloroethylene, originating from a tank 4, in order to eliminate most of the PCB which impregnates the inner walls of the transformer 1, the resulting product being also sent to the containers 2, then the gases generated by the solvent are removed which, duly monitored, pass out to the atmosphere. Next, a further washing of the transformer 1 is carried out, in this case with dielectric oil supplied from the containers 3, this washing being repeated several times, in closed circuit, the oil being made to pass through treatment equipment 6 in which the oil is dialysed or filtered continuously until it reaches the parameters pre-established in this respect, finally remaining within the transformer 1 as dielectric and means for refrigeration thereof.
