Abstract

It consists in a novel system for engraving on very hard materials, it includes the production of the design to be engraved by means of computer, and its printing with a plotter/cutter on vinyl templates. The latter are stuck onto the material to be engraved (granite, marble, etc.), and then the areas in which engraving is to take place are detached and engraving takes place using pressurized sand discharged by a water pump or compressor, via a hose which directs it towards an outlet nozzle. The impact produces incisions in the stone and reduces its size by a number of millimetres, depending on the grain size of sand being used. It is possible to achieve different finishes: engraving alone, engraving and colouring with paint, cementing or enamelling, producing different edge trims, and there is also the possibility of carrying these out in series.
