Abstract

In an iron with a soleplate, on which a heating subassembly is fastened so as to bear sealingly thereon over a large middle surface region, the soleplate having an upper layer of a metal of good thermal conductivity and a lower layer of a wear-resistant material, it is proposed that the lower layer of the soleplate consist of fine steel and be combined unreleasably with the metal layer of good thermal conductivity to form a composite material, and the heating subassembly be fastened in its edge regions to the soleplate. The bimetallic effect of the soleplate taking effect during heating ensures a particularly good large-area bearing of the soleplate on the heating subassembly. The soleplate preferably consists of a composite metal sheet, in which the aluminium layer is connected metallically to the fine-steel layer by rolling. A wear-resistant, easily cleanable iron sole with a good transfer of heat to the soleplate is achieved.
