EN LA PARTE INFERIOR TIENE LUGAR UNA ZONA DE DESTILACION, EN CUYA REGION SUPERIOR SE INTRODUCE UN GAS DE BARRIDO CALIENTE CON UNA TEMPERATURA DE 250 - 600 ENTE FLUYE HACIA ABAJO EN LA MISMA CORRIENTE CON LA MADERA A TRAVES DE LA ZONA DE DESTILACION. A PARTIR DE LA REGION INFERIOR DE LA ZONA DE DESTILACION SE EXTRAE UNA MEZCLA DE GAS QUE CONTIENE UN GAS DE BARRIDO Y UN GAS DE AZUFRE QUE SE QUEMA AL MENOS PARCIALMENTE FUERA DEL REACTOR DE POZO. EL GAS DE COMBUSTION GENERADO CON ELLO SE UTILIZA AL MENOS PARCIALMENTE COMO GAS DE BARRIDO CALIENTE.
