Abstract

Low power Monostatic Coherent Lidar System for measuring the velocity of solid targets. A prototype is described for a Monostatic Coherent Lidar System (MCLS) capable of measuring the velocity of solid targets up to a distance of 10 m. The operating principle is the detection of the Doppler shift that occurs in the frequency of the radiation dispersed by a target illuminated by the system. The range of velocities that it is capable of measuring is from 10 kph up to about 250 kph. It uses a low power HeNe laser transmitter, an optical system for the conditioning and processing of the signals transmitted, received and from the local oscillator, an avalanche photodiode (APD) receiver and post-processing electronics for detecting the Doppler shift and hence the velocity of the moving object.
