EL PROCEDIMIENTO DE ACONDICIONAMIENTO POR METALIZACION DE GRAFITO RADIACTIVO PROCEDENTE DE INSTALACIONES NUCLEARES O DE SU DESMANTELAMIENTO, CONSISTE EN LA METALIZACION DE GRAFITO IRRADIADO CON UNA DOBLE CAPA DELGADA DE COBRE-NIQUEL PARA SU IMPERMEABILIZACION, MINIMIZANDO LA LIXIVIACION DE LOS RADIONUCLEIDOS CONTENIDOS, Y FACILITANDO SU MANEJABILIDAD AL ELIMINAR EL PROBLEMA DE LA UNTUOSIDAD. LA METALIZACION SE REALIZA POR REDUCCION AUTOCATALITICA SIN ELECTRODO ("ELECTROLESS"), ESTO ES, POR REDUCCION QUIMICA DE SALES METALICAS EN SOLUCION SOBRE LA SUPERFICIE DEL GRAFITO DONDE PREVIAMENTE SE HA DEPOSITADO UN CATALIZADOR Y ESTE HA SIDO ACTIVADO.
