Abstract
In order to sort spent glass, fragments with an edge length between 5 and 50 mm are produced by means of a crusher. They are cleaned and divided up into a plurality of fractions according to size by means of a classifier and the fragments with edge lengths below 5 mm are collected as mixed glass. The fragments of each fraction are fed separately from collecting containers (8a to 8c) by means of a conveying device (9) to storage containers (10) in each case, from which the fragments are individually fed to a respective multiplicity of assigned slides (12 and 15 to 17). Colour detection units, preferably light transmitters and receivers measuring for absorption, are provided for detecting the glass colour (colourless, green, brown; non-transparent, non-glass material). As a function of the value of the light transmission, the fragments are fed to predetermined adjacent slides and via the slides directed into assigned sorting containers (18 to 21), sorted according to colours (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
