Axial displacement of the starter motor pinion 11 is limited by abutment of a shoulder 22 in the pinion bore 21 with a shoulder 23 on a screw 25 in the motor drive shaft. A cap 28 prevents dirt entry into the bore 21. Abutment of the shoulders 22, 23 provides a screw tightening force.
