Abstract

The calorimetric method is based on measurement of the energy released in the recrystallisation process and comprises (a) initial cold deformation of the material causing embrittlement; (b) taking a sample suitable for measuring the energy liberated; (c) optimising the sample to improve measurement; (d) heating at a controlled rate to bring about recrystallisation; (e) application of an inert gas atmos; and (f) determining annealing ability using as parameters the recrystallisation onset temp, peak temp for conversion velocity or the temp at which 95% recrystallisation is achieved.
