Abstract

The discharge lamp (3) is installed at one focus (8) of the composite reflector (2) which has an elongated upper section (4) and a shortened lower section (6) with a common optical axis (5). The upper section (4) having its focus (7) behind the lamp (3) reflects a dipped beam (18). The lower section (6) is irradiated with ultraviolet emission through a filter (17) on the underside of the lamp (3), opaque to visible light. The main beam (19) renders fluorescent objects visible without dazzle. ADVANTAGE - At least part of ultraviolet emission is utilised to improve visibility at long distance e.g. in fog.
