Abstract

Apparatus for inspecting the finish of a container as the latter is held and rotated about its central axis. A light source is located in order to direct diffuse light energy onto the finish of the container, and a camera is located from one side to the other of the axis of the container from the light source. The camera comprises a number of arrangements of elements which are sensitive to light and located with respect to the focusing elements of the camera on a common optical plane opposite the light source, in order to receive non-superposed images of the finish of the container which are separated from one another laterally with respect to the axis of the container. Information-processing electronics are coupled into the arrangements of the camera in order to indicate optical characteristics of the finish of the container, such as different functions of the intensity of incident light on the elements of each arrangement.
