Abstract

A bearing sensing device for use in an automatic vehicle guidance system has a lens, such as a fish eye lens (50) or a spherical reflecting lens (60), having a substantial angle of view in elevation and almost a full 360 DEG view in azimuth. Light from the lens (50, 60) is focused onto a substantially annular photo detector (54), which is connected to means for relating a focusing point (72) on the photo detector (54) to a reference axis.
