Abstract
Ciprofloxazine of formula (I), its acceptable addn. salts and hydrates, for use as a bactericide and immuno-stimulant highly effective against GRam-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, is made by reaction of 1-cyclopropyl 7-chloro 6-fluoro 1,4-dihydro 4-oxo quinoline 3-carboxylic acid methyl ester with excess N-ethoxycarboxyl piperazine to give an intermediate with two ester gps., which is simultaneously hydrolysed.
