Abstract

In a process for oxidizing treatment, preferably decarbonization of unalloyed and alloyed steel by treating the metal bath with oxygen and inert gas in a metallurgical vessel, the gas is introduced into the metal bath at points located below the surface of the bath. In order to carry out the process simply and economically, the oxygen is introduced into the metal bath in a first region and the inert gas in a second region and the gas is introduced into each of the two regions in such a way that a flow movement is produced in the metal bath.
