Abstract

Locking device for gravity davits of the type which comprises a main arm (1) and a rocking arm (2) on the main arm. At its outer end the rocking arm is provided with one or more pulleys (17) for a hoisting rope for launching a lifeboat, raft or the like. A locing piece (10) is provided at the outer end of the rocking arm for securing the lifeboat or the like in the stowed position of the davit. The locking piece is pivotable about a horizontal axis (10A) in relation to the rocking arm (2). A linkage extends between pivot points (5, 10B) on the main arm and the locking piece respectively, and comprises a locking rod (6), a second rod (7) and an intermediate rocking piece (12A, 12B) which is two-armed and journalled about an axis (13) which is fixed in relation to the rocking arm (2). The locking rod (6) has a longitudinal guide slot (16) for a slide pin (14) provided on one (12A) of the arms of the rocking piece. Moreover, the locking rod (6) has a longitudinal engagement surface (6A) adapted to co-operate with a stop member (15) in the first locking position. The end of the locking rod (6) at the rocking piece is adapted to co-operate with a stop member (15) which serves to put the locking rod under compressive stress in a second locking position (see the figure) in which the angle between the main arm (1) and the rocking arm (2) is changed in comparison to the angle in the first locking position. The device gives an automatic and reliable locking function for securing the lifeboat in the stowed position of the davit at the same time as the hoisting rope arrangement is relieved, and fixing of the rocking arm (2) in relation to the main arm (1) in the fully outboard position of the davit, respectively.
