Abstract

A self-blocking securing device 10 comprises a metal body 14 equipped with a recess 16 housing the rope and a blocking catch 24 pivotally mounted on a spindle 22. The free end of the catch 24 is shaped into a jamming cam on which gripping spikes 28 are located. The dished profile of the cam 26 follows the shape of the rope exactly, and the bottom of the dish comprises a single slit 50 of small thickness, extending in the longitudinal direction of the median axis of the catch 24 in such a way as to allow the mud or ice accumulated in the bottom of the dish to be completely evacuated by means of the pressure of the catch 24 on the rope. Application: mountaineering, speleology, building sites.
