UN METODO DE PREPARACION DE (1-FENILETIL)HIDROQUINONA, QUE CONSISTE EN HACER REACCIONAR ESTIRENO CON HIDROQUINONA; EN CANTIDADES EQUIMOLECULARES O CON LIGERO EXCESO DE HIDROQUININA, EN PRESENCIA DE UN DILUYENTE ORGANICO (DIALCOXITETRAGLICOL, CON HASTA 4 ATOMOS DE CARBONO), A TEMPERATURA DE 135-145GC, DURANTE VARIAS HORAS, EN PRESENCIA DE UN ACIDO DE LEWIS (PREFERENTEMENTE ACIDO PARA-TOLUENSULFONICO). EL PRODUCTO CRUDO DE LA REACCION SE DESTILA A VACIO PARA OBTENER UNA FRACCION QUE CONTIENE 93-94% EN PESO DE (1-FENILETIL)HIDROQUINONA. EL MISMO DILUYENTE DE LA REACCION SIRVE COMO ACOMPAÑANTE EN LA DESTILACION DE LA HIDROQUINONA NO REACCIONADA. LA FRACCION DESTILADA DEL PRODUCTO CRUDO DE LA REACCION SE VUELVE A DESTILAR A VACIO PARA OBTENER (1-FENILETIL)HIDROQUINONA, CON UN MINIMO DE 96% DE PUREZA.ESTE PRODUCTO TIENE UN USO ADECUADO PARA UNA GRAN VARIEDAD DE REACCIONES QUIMICAS DONDE SE NECESITA UN DIOL MONOSUSTITUIDO.
