Abstract

Method comprises applying to the plant surface an amt. sufficient to reduce moisture loss from the plant surface without inhibiting plant photosynthetic electron transport, of N-heterocyclic cpd. of formula R1-X-R2 (I) Also claimed are methods of increasing crop yields and reducing moisture loss from soil by applying (I) In (I), R1=(i) opt. substd. carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring system selected from mono-, bi- and polycyclic (non)aromatic ring systems, and opt. unsatd. bridged ring systems or (ii) a substd. heteroatom or substd. C atom, or an opt. substd. branched or straight chain contg. two or more C atoms or heteroatoms in any combination X=covalent single or double bond, an opt. substd. heteroatom or substd. carbon atom, or an opt. substd. branched or straight chain contg. two or more C atoms or heteroatoms in any combination R2=opt. substd. heterocyclic ring system having at least one N atom, which is selected from nomo-, bi- and (non)aromatic ring systems and opt. unsatd. bridged ring systems a very large number of specific substits. for R1, X and R2 is given. (I) include 33 classes of new cpds.
