In some embodiments, the antibacterial composition may comprise sodium percarbonate in an amount of about 12 wt. % and the tetraacetylethylenediamine in an amount of about 6 wt. % - both amounts based on the total weight of the cleaning composition.
[0024] It has been surprisingly discovered that the antibacterial composition comprising the combination of sodium percarbonate and tetraacetylethylenediamine provides an unexpected improvement in the reduction of bacteria in a solid cleaning composition. As discussed in greater detail herein - it has been discovered that the combination of sodium percarbonate and tetraacetylethylenediamine provides an unexpected reduction in at least the bacteria including E. Coli, S. Typhimurium, S. Aureus, P. Aeruginosa - for relatively fast contact times of the cleaning composition once in a dissolved state (i.e., less than about 10 minutes).
[0025] The cleaning composition may be effervescent. The cleaning component may comprise an effervescent component. The effervescent component may, on contact with water, cause the cleaning composition to produce a bubble-forming effect. The effervescence may be as a result of gas trapped in the matrix of the particle being released when the particle contacts water, or more usually, is the result of a reaction which takes place between two or more reactants present in the effervescence particle which, on contact with water react with one another to produce a gas.
[0026] The time an effervescent product takes to dissolve is affected by several factors. In addition to the environment in which it is used, key among these factors are: its form (tablet, granule or powder); its size and its density; its hardness and the formulation itself. Effervescent compositions - such as the cleaning composition of the present invention - may dissolve quickly, generally within a few seconds. Such effervescent compositions may react immediately, generally on the surface of the water.
[0027] The effervescent component may be present in an amount ranging from about 22 wt. % to about 40 wt. % - based on the total weight of the cleaning composition, including all percentages and sub-ranges there-between. In some embodiments, the effervescent component may be present in an amount ranging from about 25 wt. % to about 37 wt. % - based on the total weight of the cleaning composition, including all percentages and sub-ranges thcrc-bctwccn.
[0028] The effervescent component may comprise a blend of an acid source and a carbonate salt. The carbonate salt and the acid source may be present in a weight ratio ranging from about 1.5:1 to about 5.5:1 - including all ratios and sub-ranges there-between. In some embodiments, the carbonate salt and the acid source may be present in a weight ratio ranging from about 1.5:1 to about 4.8:1 - including all ratios and sub-ranges there-between.
[0029] The acid source and the carbonate salt may be physically “glued” together using a solidifying agent (also referred to as a binder) - as discussed in greater detail herein.
