Definitions
- the present invention belongs to the field of geopolymers and in particular geopolymers useful for the depollution, purification and/or decontamination of liquid or gaseous effluents as well as for filtration.
- the present invention proposes a process making it possible to prepare a geopolymer capable of trapping at least one element of interest of the ion type via the covalent grafting of one or more extracting groups, identical or different.
- This process also includes a 3D printing step through which a geopolymer with optimized open porosity and therefore a large specific surface area is obtained, which makes it possible to increase the number of grafted extractant groups.
- the present invention also relates to a geopolymer thus prepared and its various uses, particularly in any field requiring the selective trapping or selective extraction of elements of interest of the ion type.
- Geopolymers are alumino-silicate materials synthesized from the alkaline activation of an alumino-silicate source such as, for example, metakaolin or fly ash. These are mainly amorphous materials which have an intrinsic porosity of the order of 40-50%, an average pore size of between 4 and 15 nm and a specific surface area of between 40 and 200 m 2 /g depending on the alkaline activator used ie sodium or potassium [1].
- Geopolymers are presented as having good mechanical strength, good resistance to fire and acid attack. In fact, they can be used in various sectors of industry such as (i) building as a construction or insulation material, (ii) nuclear power for waste conditioning or (iii) chemistry as a catalyst support or membrane filtration or for trapping toxic elements or other heavy metals.
- geopolymers are used in particular for the capture of cesium.
- the work of Lee et al (2017) showed the adsorption of cesium in solution on a mesoporous geopolymer [2].
- a recovery efficiency of 96% could be shown, the maximum adsorption was reached with 15.24 mg/g of geopolymer, which is lower than pulverized mordenite (zeolite).
- 3D printing Since 2009, 3D printing has continued to improve and innovate in many areas.
- the main advantage of 3D printing is the custom manufacturing of more or less complex parts, meeting the specifications of the future use.
- 3D printing of geopolymers has been described in the state of the art.
- the team of Cepollaro et al showed the possibility of manufacturing a 3D printable geopolymer allowing the selective reduction of gaseous nitrogen oxides (NOx) which are pollutants emitted by combustion engines [4].
- NOx gaseous nitrogen oxides
- the geopolymer incorporates zeolites (37% by weight of ZSM-5), and is functionalized by an ionic exchange (copper ion) via a copper acetate solution.
- the geopolymer formulation used allows the creation of mesopores after acid treatment.
- this work shows that the incorporation of copper is not optimal, this being found in the form of copper hydroxide which is non-reactive for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx.
- the inventors have set themselves the goal of proposing an easy-to-implement process for preparing a geopolymer making it possible to effectively trap at least one element of interest of the ion type, particularly with a view to generating a filtration membrane or even with a view to decontamination. of a liquid or gaseous effluent containing toxic elements or other heavy metals.
- the present invention makes it possible to achieve the goal set by the inventors by providing a process making it possible to prepare, in a simple and easy to implement manner, a geopolymer capable of effectively trapping at least one ion such as a metal ion or metalloid, this material does not present the disadvantages of materials of the state of the art.
- the inventors have shown that it is possible to resolve the technical problems of prior art materials by combining the preparation of a geopolymer involving at least one 3D printing step with the functionalization of the geopolymer thus prepared. with at least one extracting group capable of trapping, chelating and/or complexing at least one ion such as a metal or metalloid ion.
- 3D printing both additive (or direct) and inverse 3D printing, ie with a sacrificial support (or skeleton), also known under the term "template”
- a sacrificial support also known under the term "template”
- Such a specific surface area can be obtained by increasing the printing density via a reduction in the printing resolution (order of magnitude going from millimeters to hundreds of micrometers) with much lower macroporosities (from a few micrometers to a few hundred nanometers).
- the geopolymer or the sacrificial support prepared by 3D printing can have complex shapes for which an increase in tortuosity by changing the printing geometry also makes it possible to obtain a high specific surface area.
- direct 3D printing makes it possible to prepare a geopolymer presenting, in addition to mesopores and possibly unconnected macropores resulting mainly from the geopolymerization process, connected macropores obtained via 3D printing.
- the geopolymer obtained by the process of the invention can be in the form of a geopolymer foam without it being necessary to add pore-forming agents to the geopolymeric mixture or to the geopolymeric grout.
- the latter could require treatments that could physically and/or chemically alter the latter. It is however possible to use, in the context of the present invention, pore-forming agents which do not require elimination or whose elimination is carried out via a treatment which does not alter, either physically or chemically, the geopolymer.
- the inventors showed that it was possible to obtain a geopolymer without it being necessary to subject this material to a drying step at high temperature to release its porosity. Indeed, the inventors have more particularly shown that subjecting the geopolymeric grout to 3D printing makes it possible to dispense with any heat treatment. This advantage, i.e. the absence of a high temperature step, also applies when the geopolymer is obtained using a sacrificial support prepared by 3D printing. Note however that, in the context of inverse 3D printing, a high temperature ie higher than 30°C may be necessary when the step of releasing the porosity by eliminating the sacrificial support and the functionalization step by extracting groups are concomitant.
- the present invention relates to a process for preparing a geopolymer capable of trapping at least one ion, comprising:
- the extracting group does not comprise an amine function -N Hz-
- geometric polymer is meant, in the context of the present invention, a solid and porous material in the dry state, obtained following the hardening of a mixture containing finely ground materials (i.e. the alumino-silicate source) and a saline solution (i.e. the activation solution), said mixture being capable of setting and hardening over time.
- This mixture can also be designated under the terms “geopolymeric mixture”, “geopolymer mixture”, “geopolymeric composition” or even “geopolymer composition”.
- the hardening of the geopolymer is the result of the dissolution/polycondensation of the finely ground materials of the geopolymeric mixture in the saline solution such as a high pH saline solution (i.e. the activation solution).
- a geopolymer is an amorphous alumino-silicate inorganic polymer.
- Said polymer is obtained from a reactive material containing essentially silica and aluminum (ie the alumino-silicate source), activated by a strongly alkaline solution, the solid/solution mass ratio in the formulation being low.
- the structure of a geopolymer is composed of a Si-O-AI network formed of tetrahedra of silicates (Si ⁇ 4) and aluminates (AIO4) linked at their vertices by sharing oxygen atoms.
- charge compensating cation(s) also called compensation cation(s) which make it possible to compensate for the negative charge of the AI ⁇ 4' complex.
- Said compensation cation(s) is(are) advantageously chosen from the group consisting of alkali metals such as lithium (Li), sodium (Na), potassium (K), rubidium (Rb ) and cesium (Cs); alkaline earth metals such as magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), strontium (Sr) and barium (Ba); and their mixtures.
- reactive material containing essentially silica and aluminum and “alumino-silicate source” are, in the present invention, similar and usable interchangeably.
- the reactive material containing essentially silica and aluminum which can be used to prepare the geopolymer matrix used in the context of the invention is advantageously a solid source containing amorphous alumino-silicates.
- amorphous alumino-silicates are chosen in particular from natural alumino-silicate minerals such as illite, stilbite, kaolinite, pyrophyllite, andalusite, bentonite, kyanite, milanite, grovenite, amesite, cordierite, feldspar, allophane, etc.

Description
PROCÉDÉ DE PRÉPARATION D'UN GÉOPOLYMÈRE FONCTIONNALISÉ IMPLIQUANT UNE IMPRESSION 3D, LEDIT GÉOPOLYMÈRE ET SES UTILISATIONS
DESCRIPTION
DOMAINE TECHNIQUE
- une fonction ammonium de formule -N+(RI)(R2)(R3) avec Ri, R2 et R3, identiques ou différents, représentant un atome d'hydrogène, un radical alkyle ou un radical aryle ;
- une fonction amine de formule -N(R4)(Rs) avec R4 et Rs, identiques ou différents, représentant un atome d'hydrogène, un radical alkyle ou un radical aryle à condition que, lorsque R4 représente un atome d'hydrogène, Rs ne représente pas un atome d'hydrogène ;

Dans une seconde forme de mise en œuvre de la préparation du géopolymère, le mélange ou coulis géopolymérique est mis en contact avec un support sacrificiel obtenu par impression 3D. Ainsi, la préparation du géopolymère comprend les étapes consistant à : a?) préparer, par impression 3D, un support sacrificiel ; bz) mettre en contact ledit support sacrificiel préparé à l'étape a?) avec un mélange géopolymérique préalablement préparé ;
A titre

Hauteur de couche : 0.5 mm ;
Taille de la buse : 0.8 mm ;
Type de remplissage : Gyroïde ;
Taux de remplissage : 20 à 80% ;
Etape 2 : i.
