Abstract

The present invention relates to a household appliance (1) which is a laundry dryer (3) and a washing machine (2) connected to the laundry dryer (3), comprising a washing tub which is provided in the washing machine (2); a condensate tank (4) which is provided in the laundry dryer (3) and wherein the water condensed in the drying process is stored; a hose (6) one end of which opens to the condensate tank (4) and the other end to the washing tub; and a heater (5) which is controlled according to the temperature level of the washing program selected by the user in the washing machine (2) so as to adjust the temperature of the water stored in the condensate tank (4).

Description

  • The present invention relates to a household appliance comprising a washing machine connected to a laundry dryer wherein the condensate tank is cleaned, and relates to the control method thereof.
  • In laundry dryers, water condensing during the drying process is collected in a condensate tank or directly discharged. In household appliances where the laundry dryer is connected to the washing machine, the water stored in the condensate tank is used for the next wash in the washing machine. However, since the user's washing habits and needs vary, it is not known when the next washing process will be performed. In this case, microbial accumulation occurs in the water stored in the condensate tank, depending on the humidity and temperature values of the environment. The experiments show that bacteria at the level of log 4 - 5 are formed in the water stored in the condensate tank. In case this water is taken into the washing machine, bacteria are carried both into the washing machine and onto the laundry loaded into the washing machine. Microbial contamination is eliminated during the washing process performed with high temperature programs or high alkalinity powder detergents in the washing machine. However, if the user uses liquid detergent and low temperature programs, microorganisms cannot be eliminated and a hygiene risk arises both in the washing machine and in the washing process since dirty water is taken into the washing machine.
  • In the state of the art washing machines, hygienic washing or washing machine cleaning programs with the effect of temperature are widely used. Moreover, the state of the art embodiments comprise methods such as the application of heat, UV and ozone for ensuring the hygiene of stored washing water.
  • The state of the art United States Patent Application No. US2011185511 discloses the heating of the washing water in the washing machine by benefiting from the temperature of the water condensed in the laundry dryer and the improvement of the washing performance and the reduction of energy consumption.
  • The aim of the present invention is the realization of a household appliance comprising a washing machine connected to a laundry dryer wherein the condensate tank is cleaned, and the realization of a control method thereof.
  • The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, is a laundry dryer and a washing machine connected to the laundry dryer, and comprises a washing tub which is provided in the washing machine; a condensate tank which is provided in the laundry dryer and wherein the water condensed in the drying process is stored; a hose one end of which opens to the condensate tank and the other end to the washing tub; and a heater which is controlled according to the temperature level of the washing program selected by the user in the washing machine.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the heater is disposed in the condensate tank to heat the water stored in the condensate tank and is operated according to the temperature level of the washing program selected by the user in the washing machine. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the heater is fixed to the rear wall of the condensate tank so as to extend into the condensate tank. In this embodiment, the heater is a resistance-type heater.
  • In the embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance comprises a cold washing program with threshold values of preferably 30°, 35° and 40° , a warm washing program with threshold values of preferably 45°, 50° and below 60°, and a hygienic washing program with a threshold value of preferably 60° and above. In the embodiment of the present invention, the heater is operated when the cold or warm washing program is selected. The heater is not operated if the hygienic washing program is selected.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the cold washing program is selected by the user in the washing machine, the heater is operated and the water in the condensate tank is heated to the temperature determined by the manufacturer so as to ensure that the water is hygienic. At the same time, the washing program is started in the washing machine. Since the water in the condensate tank is heated to a temperature level which can damage delicate textiles, said water is not used during the washing program, preferably during the washing process performed with detergent, but is transferred to the washing tub through the hose to be used in the rinsing step. In this embodiment of the present invention, either the entire water in the condensate tank is used in the rinsing step at once, or is used in parts in different rinsing steps.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the warm washing program is selected by the user in the washing machine, the heater is operated and the water in the condensate tank is heated to the temperature determined by the manufacturer so as to ensure that the water is hygienic. At the same time, the washing program is started in the washing machine. In this embodiment of the present invention, the water in the condensate tank is transferred to the washing tub of the washing machine through the hose to be used in the washing program.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, when the hygienic washing program is selected by the user in the washing machine, the water in the condensate tank is transferred directly to the washing tub of the washing machine through the hose to be used in the washing program.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the heater is a resistance-type, film-type or infrared heater.
  • By means of the present invention, the heater disposed in the condensate tank in the laundry dryer is controlled by the control unit in the washing machine according to the washing program selected by the user in the washing machine. Thus, the water stored in the condensate tank is ensured to be hygienic by a heater controlled according to the washing program selected in the washing machine, thus both hygiene is ensured and the heated water is used in the washing machine for hygiene purposes. Thus, while the water stored in the condensate tank to be used in the washing machine is disinfected, the energy consumed for disinfection is optimized.
  • In an embodiment of the control method of the present invention, the control method is suitable for the household device described above and comprises the steps of, when the user selects the cold washing program, starting the heater and heating the water in the condensate tank to the temperature determined by the manufacturer so as to ensure that the water is hygienic, and at the same time, starting the washing program in the washing machine and using the water in the condensate tank in the rinsing step without being used in the washing program.
  • In another embodiment of the control method of the present invention, the control method is suitable for the household device described above and comprises the steps of, when the user selects the warm washing program, starting the heater and heating the water in the condensate tank to the temperature determined by the manufacturer so as to ensure that the water is hygienic, and at the same time, starting the washing program in the washing machine and using the water in the condensate tank in the washing program.
  • In another embodiment of the control method of the present invention, the control method is suitable for the household device described above and comprises the step of, when the user selects the hygienic washing program, transferring the water in the condensate tank directly to the washing tub of the washing machine to be used in the washing program.
  • By means of the present invention, an additional heater is used to ensure the hygiene of the water in the condensate tank and energy optimization is achieved under these conditions. Moreover, microbial contamination in the water recovered during the drying process and stored in the condensate tank is eliminated, and energy consumption is optimized by ensuring that the energy spent due to the disinfection process carried out by heating by means of the heater is used in heating the washing water in the washing machine.
