Definitions
- the invention relates to a vacuum cleaner, preferably a hand-held vacuum cleaner, according to claim 1.
- the cleaning devices include the vacuum cleaner, which sucks in air and dirt from a surface and can release the air at least essentially cleaned of dirt to the outside.
- Such vacuum cleaners can be connected to a power outlet with a cord for operation.
- battery-powered vacuum cleaners that have a rechargeable battery or an accumulator as a rechargeable electrical energy store are also known and widespread.
- the comparatively compact and lightweight handheld vacuum cleaners are often battery-operated to allow the user to use them more quickly and easily.
- a vacuum cleaner has a fan that can generate the air flow.
- a negative pressure can be generated on the intake side of the blower, which can ensure that air flows in; this section of the vacuum cleaner can also be referred to as the vacuum area of the vacuum cleaner.
- the filter can hold back dirt such as dust, especially house dust, and other smaller particles from the air flow and thereby filter the air flow, which can then leave the vacuum cleaner cleaner than when it is sucked in. This allows the surface to be cleaned of dirt.
- the substrate can be any surface such as a floor or its floor covering.
- the air flow including dirt can be guided directly via a suction nozzle as a suction opening, which is part of the vacuum cleaner itself.
- the suction nozzle which can also be referred to as a floor nozzle, can also be connected to the vacuum cleaner via a suction hose and, if necessary, via an additional telescopic tube; in this case, the vacuum cleaner can and the other components such as suction nozzle, suction hose and, if necessary, telescopic tube are also referred to together as a vacuum cleaner system.
- the suction nozzle can be guided by a user over an underground in order to pick up dirt from there with the sucked-in air.
- a brush can be arranged in the area of the suction nozzle, which can be driven in rotation in order to brush the surface to be cleaned and thereby loosen dirt, for example from the fibers of a carpet, so that the loosened dirt can be removed more effectively by the air flow .
- This brush can also be called a floor brush or brush roller.
- the fan of such vacuum cleaners is usually operated by an electric motor.
- brushless electric motors are often used, which have no slip rings or commutators and brushes between the rotor and stator, which can wear out. Therefore, brushless electric motors usually have a longer service life or a longer service life than electric motors with brushes. This can have a correspondingly positive effect on the service life or the service life of the vacuum cleaner. Also, brushless electric motors usually have a higher power than brushed electric motors.
- the floor brush can also be operated with an electric motor, which, however, is usually designed with brushes, i.e. as an electric motor with brushes, for reasons of cost.
- the electric motor of the floor brush can in particular be a permanently excited electric direct current motor.
- Such vacuum cleaners are usually used with different suction attachments in order to adapt the vacuum cleaner to different environments and thus ensure the best possible use of the vacuum cleaner in each case.
- suction attachments are arranged on the suction nozzle and, in particular due to the size of their aperture, influence the suction effect of the vacuum cleaner in relation to the surface.
- the suction attachments also referred to as attachments or accessories for short, are partly active, such as the electric floor brushes already described, but also upholstery brushes or wiping attachments, and partly passive, such as attachments from the 3D printer or joint attachments.
- the power control commonly used with vacuum cleaners ensures constant vacuum cleaner performance, but is not always operated at the maximum energy efficiency of the fan drive.
- the performance of the vacuum cleaner's fan is not directly the size required for dust collection responsible for. The aim, however, is the best possible dust pick-up. Here, an approximately desired volume flow is realized via the power. However, this does not achieve an optimal result in terms of dust absorption.
- the performance of the fan is not in the energy efficiency optimum of the fan drive.
- the EP 2 875 767 A1 relates to a method for operating a vacuum cleaner, with a blower having a blower motor, which generates an air flow through a suction nozzle of the vacuum cleaner, and a control device, which controls the blower as a function of a floor covering category to be processed.
- the control device also carries out a control step so that the blower power is changed depending on the filling level of a dust bag arranged in the vacuum cleaner during operation or of a dust separation unit arranged in the vacuum cleaner during operation.
- the degree of filling is determined from a pressure difference from a first pressure at a first measurement position upstream of the dust bag or the dust separation unit in the direction of the suction flow and a second pressure at a second measurement position downstream of the dust bag or the dust separation unit in the direction of the suction flow, with the first and the second pressure being determined by in each case a pressure sensor connected to the measurement positions is determined.
- the EP 2 595 522 A1 describes a device and a method for controlling the power of a blower motor for a vacuum cleaner, which has a replaceable filter bag arranged in a dust chamber, in which a differential pressure between a first area located in front of the replaceable filter bag in the suction flow direction and a second area located after the replaceable filter bag in the suction flow direction is recorded and the power of the blower motor is adjusted as a function of the detected differential pressure.
- the disadvantage of this is that two pressure sensors must be used in each case in order to be able to detect both pressures in front of and behind the dust bag and to use them to determine the filling level of the dust bag or to adjust the power of the blower.
- This can lead to corresponding costs for the pressure sensors and their connections.
- This also leads to increased costs for the electronics or control unit, which must evaluate both pressure sensors.
- the pressure sensors and their wiring also require space and generate weight. Furthermore, this leads to an additional consumption of electrical energy, which is undesirable in a battery-powered vacuum cleaner.
- the assembly of the pressure sensors, especially in the air hose can be complex and thus also lead to increased costs.
- the invention therefore addresses the problem of providing a vacuum cleaner, preferably a hand-held vacuum cleaner, so that the filling level of the dust bag and/or an attachment can be determined, with this being implemented with less effort, in particular with just one pressure sensor shall be.
- this should preferably be as simple, inexpensive, space-saving and/or energy-saving as possible.
- This should preferably be implemented for battery-powered vacuum cleaners. At least an alternative to known vacuum cleaners of this type should be created.
- the invention thus relates to a vacuum cleaner, preferably a hand-held vacuum cleaner, with a fan with an impeller for generating an air flow, with an electric motor for driving the impeller of the fan, with a control unit for operating the electric motor of the fan, with a dust container which is designed and is set up to be flowed through by the air flow, the dust container being arranged in front of the fan in the course of the air flow, and with a pressure sensor which is designed and set up to detect a pressure of the air flow in the course of the air flow in front of the dust container.
- the vacuum cleaner according to the invention is characterized in that the control unit is designed to determine a filling level of the dust container and/or an attachment based on the detected pressure of the pressure sensor and on the speed of the electric motor of the fan.
- the speed of the electric motor of the blower can be detected by means of a corresponding sensor or can be determined from key figures of the electric motor of the blower, for example from the motor current or from the motor voltage, so that a speed sensor can also be dispensed with.
- a further pressure sensor as previously known, can thus be dispensed with. This can save costs with regard to the purchase and installation of the additional pressure sensor. Installation space can also be saved and the electrical consumption of the vacuum cleaner can be reduced, which can be advantageous in particular in the case of a battery-operated vacuum cleaner.
- the filling level of the dust container of the vacuum cleaner can be determined, since the Filling level of the dust container, comparable to the aperture size of an attachment, affects the volume flow of the fan and thus corresponding conclusions can be drawn from the volume flow of the fan and thus from the speed of the electric motor of the fan on the filling level of the dust container.
- Corresponding relationships can be determined experimentally and stored in the control unit. This can be done using a table of values, formulas and the like. This can make it possible to determine the filling level of the dust container in this way and to make this information available to the user of the vacuum cleaner, for example by means of a display, and/or to use it in some other way.
- an attachment and in particular its aperture size which affects the flow resistance of the air flow that can be generated by the vacuum cleaner fan through the attachment, can be differentiated according to the speed of the electric motor of the fan, and preferably the electric power of the electric motor of the blower, is established when the electric motor, preferably volume flow controlled, is operated. If the corresponding values of the attachment are known, for example by means of experimental determination, then an attachment can be recognized by comparison with these values. Thus, the presence of an attachment per se and the identification of a specific attachment can take place without the attachment having to be designed accordingly.
- control unit is also designed to determine the speed of the electric motor of the fan from the motor current or from the motor voltage.
- a corresponding speed sensor or the like can thus be dispensed with, which can likewise lead to reduced costs, to a reduced installation space requirement and/or to a reduced consumption of electrical energy.
- control unit is also designed to operate the electric motor of the blower in a volume flow-controlled manner.
- This allows a constant volume flow of the air flow can be guaranteed, which can thus be independent of changing external conditions. This can ensure that the desired volume flow is actually present.
- This can be particularly advantageous in order to also achieve the desired dust pick-up or to ensure a desired constant dust pick-up.
- the desired volume flow can be specified in particular by a user of the vacuum cleaner through appropriate switch settings. This can also be advantageous in order to be able to carry out the previously described detection of the filling level of the dust container and/or the attachment at a constant volume flow.
- control unit is also designed to operate the electric motor of the fan in a power-controlled manner.
- the filling level of the dust container and/or the attachment can be detected based on power-controlled operation of the electric motor.
- This can represent an alternative possibility to the previously described detection of the filling level of the dust container and/or the attachment.
- This function can also be provided by the vacuum cleaner and used alternatively.
- control unit is also designed to determine the fill level of the dust container based on the specific attachment, or vice versa. This may expand the information available for the other detection(s).
- the pressure sensor is arranged in the course of the air flow between a suction opening, preferably a suction pipe, and the dust container. This can represent a specific implementation of the positioning of the pressure sensor.
- control unit is also designed to operate the electric motor of the fan in a torque-controlled manner.
- This aspect of the invention is based on the finding that in an electric motor and in particular in a brushless DC motor, the volume flow of the fan and the torque of the fan or its electric motor are proportional to one another.
- the volume flow control of the fan described above can be implemented by means of a torque control of the electric motor of the fan.
- control unit is also designed to operate the electric motor of the blower in a motor-current-controlled manner.
- This aspect of the invention is based on the finding that in an electric motor and in particular in a brushless DC motor, the torque of the fan or its electric motor and the motor current of the electric motor are proportional to each other.
- the previously described volume flow control of the fan or the previously described torque control of the electric motor of the fan can be implemented by means of a motor current control of the electric motor of the fan.
- the electric motor is brushless and/or designed as a DC motor. This can increase the performance and/or the longevity of the electric motor of the blower as a brushless electric motor.
- the implementation of the electric motor as a DC motor can enable the use of the properties and advantages of such electric motors.
- the vacuum cleaner has at least one rechargeable electrical energy storage device which is designed to supply electricity to at least the electric motor and the control unit.
- the rechargeable electrical energy store can in particular be an accumulator or an accumulator. This can enable the user to use the household appliance or the vacuum cleaner without an annoying cable for the electrical power supply.
- a longitudinal direction X which can also be referred to as depth X or length X, extends.
- a transverse direction (not shown), which can also be referred to as the width, extends perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction X.
- a vertical direction Z which can also be referred to as the height Z, extends perpendicularly both to the longitudinal direction X and to the transverse direction.
- the figure 1 shows a schematic side view of a vacuum cleaner 1 according to the invention in the form of a hand-held vacuum cleaner 1.
- the hand-held vacuum cleaner 1 has a housing 10 which is held by a user by means of a handle 11 and placed on a substrate 2 in the form of a floor 2 or a floor covering 2 to be cleaned Surface 2 can be performed.
- a fan 12 together with an electric motor 12a for driving the fan 12 is arranged in the housing 10 .
- the electric motor 12a is designed as a brushless DC motor 12a.
- the electric motor 12a generates a volume flow through a dust container 19 .

- a suction pipe 13 is arranged on the housing 10 opposite the handle 11 .
- a suction nozzle 14 is provided as an attachment 14 at the end of the suction tube 13 facing the housing 10 and can also be referred to as a floor nozzle 14 or as a brush head 14 .
- the suction nozzle 14 has an inner space which is designed to be open downwards in the vertical direction Z by means of a suction opening 16 .
- a rotatable brush 15 is arranged as a rotatable brush roller 15, which can be driven in rotation by means of its own electric motor (not shown).
- the electric motor of the rotatable brush 15 is designed as a permanently excited DC motor 15 with brushes.
- the hand-held vacuum cleaner 1 also has a control unit 17 which can operate both the electric motor 12a of the blower 12 and the electric motor of the rotatable brush 15 . Furthermore, the control unit 17 can read out the pressure sensor 19a, i.e. receive its measured values.

- it can be determined experimentally which filling levels of the dust container 19 correspond to which speed of the electric motor 12a of the blower 12 at which detected pressure of the pressure sensor 19a, so that on the part of the control unit 17 based on the detected pressure of the pressure sensor 19a and on the speed of the electric motor 12a of the blower 12 determines the current fill level of the dust container 19 and, if necessary, the user of the handheld vacuum cleaner 1 can be displayed. In addition or as an alternative, this can also be done for the attachment 14 . Description
The invention relates to a vacuum cleaner, preferably a hand-held vacuum cleaner, according to
The cleaning devices include the vacuum cleaner, which sucks in air and dirt from a surface and can release the air at least essentially cleaned of dirt to the outside. Such vacuum cleaners can be connected to a power outlet with a cord for operation. However, it can be more convenient for the user not to have to worry about the cable when vacuuming, which is why battery-powered vacuum cleaners that have a rechargeable battery or an accumulator as a rechargeable electrical energy store are also known and widespread. In particular, the comparatively compact and lightweight handheld vacuum cleaners are often battery-operated to allow the user to use them more quickly and easily.
A vacuum cleaner has a fan that can generate the air flow. As a result, a negative pressure can be generated on the intake side of the blower, which can ensure that air flows in; this section of the vacuum cleaner can also be referred to as the vacuum area of the vacuum cleaner.
On the opposite side of the blower, toward which the air flow is directed, there is usually at least one filter or filter system, through which the air flow is passed. This section of the vacuum cleaner can also be referred to as the overpressure area of the vacuum cleaner. The filter can hold back dirt such as dust, especially house dust, and other smaller particles from the air flow and thereby filter the air flow, which can then leave the vacuum cleaner cleaner than when it is sucked in. This allows the surface to be cleaned of dirt. The substrate can be any surface such as a floor or its floor covering.
Depending on the design of the vacuum cleaner, the air flow including dirt can be guided directly via a suction nozzle as a suction opening, which is part of the vacuum cleaner itself. However, the suction nozzle, which can also be referred to as a floor nozzle, can also be connected to the vacuum cleaner via a suction hose and, if necessary, via an additional telescopic tube; in this case, the vacuum cleaner can and the other components such as suction nozzle, suction hose and, if necessary, telescopic tube are also referred to together as a vacuum cleaner system. In any case, the suction nozzle can be guided by a user over an underground in order to pick up dirt from there with the sucked-in air.
To improve the cleaning effect, a brush can be arranged in the area of the suction nozzle, which can be driven in rotation in order to brush the surface to be cleaned and thereby loosen dirt, for example from the fibers of a carpet, so that the loosened dirt can be removed more effectively by the air flow . This can improve the cleaning efficiency of the vacuum cleaner. This brush can also be called a floor brush or brush roller.
The fan of such vacuum cleaners is usually operated by an electric motor. For this purpose, brushless electric motors are often used, which have no slip rings or commutators and brushes between the rotor and stator, which can wear out. Therefore, brushless electric motors usually have a longer service life or a longer service life than electric motors with brushes. This can have a correspondingly positive effect on the service life or the service life of the vacuum cleaner. Also, brushless electric motors usually have a higher power than brushed electric motors.
The floor brush can also be operated with an electric motor, which, however, is usually designed with brushes, i.e. as an electric motor with brushes, for reasons of cost. The electric motor of the floor brush can in particular be a permanently excited electric direct current motor.
Such vacuum cleaners are usually used with different suction attachments in order to adapt the vacuum cleaner to different environments and thus ensure the best possible use of the vacuum cleaner in each case. Such suction attachments are arranged on the suction nozzle and, in particular due to the size of their aperture, influence the suction effect of the vacuum cleaner in relation to the surface. The suction attachments, also referred to as attachments or accessories for short, are partly active, such as the electric floor brushes already described, but also upholstery brushes or wiping attachments, and partly passive, such as attachments from the 3D printer or joint attachments.
It should be noted that the power control commonly used with vacuum cleaners ensures constant vacuum cleaner performance, but is not always operated at the maximum energy efficiency of the fan drive. The performance of the vacuum cleaner's fan is not directly the size required for dust collection responsible for. The aim, however, is the best possible dust pick-up. Here, an approximately desired volume flow is realized via the power. However, this does not achieve an optimal result in terms of dust absorption. The performance of the fan is not in the energy efficiency optimum of the fan drive.
It should also be noted that the back pressure changes depending on how full the dust container of the vacuum cleaner is, so that the dust pick-up usually decreases as the dust container is filled. However, the level or degree of filling of the dust container is not taken into account. Up until now, it has also not been possible to recognize a full dust container. Accordingly, there is no notification to the user of the vacuum cleaner when the dust container is full.
It is therefore known to provide both a first pressure sensor between the inlet and the dust bag and a second pressure sensor between the dust bag and the fan in vacuum cleaners. To a certain extent, the fill level of the dust bag can be deduced from the pressure difference and this can be displayed to the user. The two pressure sensors can also be used to implement automatic power adjustment, which can react to different floor coverings and/or nozzles.
The disadvantage of this is that two pressure sensors must be used in each case in order to be able to detect both pressures in front of and behind the dust bag and to use them to determine the filling level of the dust bag or to adjust the power of the blower. This can lead to corresponding costs for the pressure sensors and their connections. This also leads to increased costs for the electronics or control unit, which must evaluate both pressure sensors. The pressure sensors and their wiring also require space and generate weight. Furthermore, this leads to an additional consumption of electrical energy, which is undesirable in a battery-powered vacuum cleaner. Furthermore, the assembly of the pressure sensors, especially in the air hose, can be complex and thus also lead to increased costs.
The invention therefore addresses the problem of providing a vacuum cleaner, preferably a hand-held vacuum cleaner, so that the filling level of the dust bag and/or an attachment can be determined, with this being implemented with less effort, in particular with just one pressure sensor shall be. In each case, this should preferably be as simple, inexpensive, space-saving and/or energy-saving as possible. This should preferably be implemented for battery-powered vacuum cleaners. At least an alternative to known vacuum cleaners of this type should be created.
According to the invention, this problem is solved by a vacuum cleaner having the features of the independent patent claim. Advantageous refinements and developments of the invention result from the following dependent claims.
The invention thus relates to a vacuum cleaner, preferably a hand-held vacuum cleaner, with a fan with an impeller for generating an air flow, with an electric motor for driving the impeller of the fan, with a control unit for operating the electric motor of the fan, with a dust container which is designed and is set up to be flowed through by the air flow, the dust container being arranged in front of the fan in the course of the air flow, and with a pressure sensor which is designed and set up to detect a pressure of the air flow in the course of the air flow in front of the dust container.
The vacuum cleaner according to the invention is characterized in that the control unit is designed to determine a filling level of the dust container and/or an attachment based on the detected pressure of the pressure sensor and on the speed of the electric motor of the fan. For this purpose, the speed of the electric motor of the blower can be detected by means of a corresponding sensor or can be determined from key figures of the electric motor of the blower, for example from the motor current or from the motor voltage, so that a speed sensor can also be dispensed with.
According to the invention, a further pressure sensor, as previously known, can thus be dispensed with. This can save costs with regard to the purchase and installation of the additional pressure sensor. Installation space can also be saved and the electrical consumption of the vacuum cleaner can be reduced, which can be advantageous in particular in the case of a battery-operated vacuum cleaner.
In other words, based on the pressure recorded by the pressure sensor in the course of the air flow in front of the dust container and the speed of the electric motor of the fan, which is arranged in the course of the air flow behind the dust container, the filling level of the dust container of the vacuum cleaner can be determined, since the Filling level of the dust container, comparable to the aperture size of an attachment, affects the volume flow of the fan and thus corresponding conclusions can be drawn from the volume flow of the fan and thus from the speed of the electric motor of the fan on the filling level of the dust container. Corresponding relationships can be determined experimentally and stored in the control unit. This can be done using a table of values, formulas and the like. This can make it possible to determine the filling level of the dust container in this way and to make this information available to the user of the vacuum cleaner, for example by means of a display, and/or to use it in some other way.
Additionally or alternatively, an attachment and in particular its aperture size, which affects the flow resistance of the air flow that can be generated by the vacuum cleaner fan through the attachment, can be differentiated according to the speed of the electric motor of the fan, and preferably the electric power of the electric motor of the blower, is established when the electric motor, preferably volume flow controlled, is operated. If the corresponding values of the attachment are known, for example by means of experimental determination, then an attachment can be recognized by comparison with these values. Thus, the presence of an attachment per se and the identification of a specific attachment can take place without the attachment having to be designed accordingly.
According to one aspect of the invention, the control unit is also designed to determine the speed of the electric motor of the fan from the motor current or from the motor voltage. A corresponding speed sensor or the like can thus be dispensed with, which can likewise lead to reduced costs, to a reduced installation space requirement and/or to a reduced consumption of electrical energy.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the control unit is also designed to operate the electric motor of the blower in a volume flow-controlled manner. This allows a constant volume flow of the air flow can be guaranteed, which can thus be independent of changing external conditions. This can ensure that the desired volume flow is actually present. This can be particularly advantageous in order to also achieve the desired dust pick-up or to ensure a desired constant dust pick-up. The desired volume flow can be specified in particular by a user of the vacuum cleaner through appropriate switch settings. This can also be advantageous in order to be able to carry out the previously described detection of the filling level of the dust container and/or the attachment at a constant volume flow.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the control unit is also designed to operate the electric motor of the fan in a power-controlled manner. In this way, the filling level of the dust container and/or the attachment can be detected based on power-controlled operation of the electric motor. This can represent an alternative possibility to the previously described detection of the filling level of the dust container and/or the attachment. This function can also be provided by the vacuum cleaner and used alternatively.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the control unit is also designed to determine the fill level of the dust container based on the specific attachment, or vice versa. This may expand the information available for the other detection(s).
According to a further aspect of the invention, the pressure sensor is arranged in the course of the air flow between a suction opening, preferably a suction pipe, and the dust container. This can represent a specific implementation of the positioning of the pressure sensor.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the control unit is also designed to operate the electric motor of the fan in a torque-controlled manner. This aspect of the invention is based on the finding that in an electric motor and in particular in a brushless DC motor, the volume flow of the fan and the torque of the fan or its electric motor are proportional to one another. Thus, the volume flow control of the fan described above can be implemented by means of a torque control of the electric motor of the fan.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the control unit is also designed to operate the electric motor of the blower in a motor-current-controlled manner. This aspect of the invention is based on the finding that in an electric motor and in particular in a brushless DC motor, the torque of the fan or its electric motor and the motor current of the electric motor are proportional to each other. Thus, the previously described volume flow control of the fan or the previously described torque control of the electric motor of the fan can be implemented by means of a motor current control of the electric motor of the fan.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the electric motor is brushless and/or designed as a DC motor. This can increase the performance and/or the longevity of the electric motor of the blower as a brushless electric motor. The implementation of the electric motor as a DC motor can enable the use of the properties and advantages of such electric motors.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the vacuum cleaner has at least one rechargeable electrical energy storage device which is designed to supply electricity to at least the electric motor and the control unit. The rechargeable electrical energy store can in particular be an accumulator or an accumulator. This can enable the user to use the household appliance or the vacuum cleaner without an annoying cable for the electrical power supply.
