Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture or furnishing items.
- In furniture and/or furnishing items in general, doors and/or panels are provided which must or can be moved between a closed position and an open position to give access to or close a compartment or part of the furniture.
- For this purpose, different types of hinges can be used, such as the older and more classic ones consisting of a pair of wings extending from an intermediate axis. One wing is connected to the furniture and the other wing to the door and the pin serves as an intermediate articulation element. For these hinges there are generally no adjustments except for the presence of fixing slots in the wings.
- There are also more modern hinges with articulated quadrilaterals, particularly complex, which allow various types of adjustments, but which require recesses either in the shoulder or in the door and are produced with multiple articulation pins collaborating with each other in the various possible movements of the hinge. These hinges are expensive and also create a certain difficulty for adjusting in the various directions.
- There are also single-pin hinges without wings in which the movements are more limited and generally have 90° openings or allow the door to open without any angle limit, causing collision between the parts of the furniture.
- There are also problems relating to the automatic closing of doors equipped with the type of pin hinges indicated above as it would be desirable to have an automated reclosure at least up to an opening of 90°.
- The general objective of the present invention is to provide a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture and/or similar furnishing items that is capable of solving the above-mentioned drawbacks of the prior art in an extremely simple, economical and particularly functional manner.
- A further objective of the present invention is to provide a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture and/or similar furnishing items that has an easy and guaranteed closure in the presence of openings less than or equal to 90°.
- Another objective of the present invention is to provide a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture and/or similar furnishing items which can be adjustable despite its constructive simplicity.
- Yet another objective of the present invention is to provide a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture and/or similar furnishing items which can have openings even greater than 90° without generating any type of collision.
- The above-mentioned objectives are achieved by a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture and/or similar furnishing items produced according to independent claim 1 and the following subordinate claims.
- The structural and functional characteristics of the present invention and its advantages with respect to the known art will appear even more evident from the following description, referring to the attached schematic drawings, which show an embodiment example of the invention itself. Furthermore, for clarity of illustration, some numerical references may not have been repeated in all the figures.
- Indications such as "vertical" and "horizontal", "upper" and "lower" (in the absence of other indications) should be read with reference to the assembly (or operating) conditions and referring to the normal terminology used in current language, wherein "vertical" indicates a direction substantially parallel to that of the force of gravity vector and "g" a horizontal direction perpendicular to it.
- With reference to the exemplary and non-limiting figures, these show an embodiment of a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture or furnishing items according to the present invention.

Figures 1 and 2 show completely schematic perspective views which illustrate the type of movement that can be effected with a hinge according to the present invention, showing it in the closed position and in the maximum opening position respectively; - Said
figures 1 and 2 show how this type of single-pin hinge, indicated as a whole with 11, is arranged between adoor 12 and abottom 13 of a piece of furniture or similar furnishing item. -
Figures 3 to 7 show a first embodiment of a hinge according to the present invention. -
Figure 4 in particular shows thishinge 11 in a plan view from above with the single-pin hinge according to the invention connected in a fixed part thereof within arecessed seat 14 of abottom 13 of a piece of furniture and in one of its movable parts connected to adoor 12, at least in one of its corners S. Thehinge 11 is represented with thedoor 12 in an initial closing phase. It is in this phase that it can be seen how the damping phase is initiated. - The recessed
seat 14 is suitable for receiving a box-like element, produced in twoparts shaped arm 17 supporting arotation pin 18. Therotation pin 18 is the point around which the articulation of thehinge 11 is effected, or around which thedoor 12 is caused to rotate with respect to thebottom 13 of the furniture. - As previously mentioned, the box-like element has a
lower housing part 15, or female part, and an upper coveringpart 16, or male part. In thelower part 15 of the box-like element there is at least aplate portion 19 of the supportingarm 17. Above thisplate portion 19 there is a shaped connectingrod 20, of which a first end carries apin 21. A second end of the shaped connectingrod 20 is rotatably connected to thedoor 12. The shaped connectingrod 20 in fact houses in ahole 22 thereof, formed at this second end, aplug 23 which is housed in ahole 24 formed in ablock 25 associated with an L-shaped joint 26 of thedoor 12. This L-shaped joint 26 is associated with a horizontal portion and a vertical portion of thedoor 12 and is arranged in correspondence with the edge S ofdoor 12. - The shaped connecting
rod 20 is kept in therecessed seat 14 above theplate portion 19 by afurther plate 27 in which a guidingslot 28 is formed. Thepin 21 is positioned in theguiding slot 28 and causes the movement of the shaped connectingrod 20. - It should be noted that a depth-
adjustment block 29 and a horizontal- or side-adjustment block 30 are arranged in therecessed seat 14 next to and alongside thefurther plate 27 above theplate portion 19. -

hinge 11 in its part positioned in therecessed seat 14 of thebottom 13 of a piece of furniture, an arrangement is provided that allows an intervention in the possible opening of the door. In thefurther plate 27, in fact, at least one stop element is also provided, as will be seen in the example hereunder, which can be actuated from the outside, which blocks the sliding of thepin 21 within theguiding slot 28 and consequently limits the movement of the shaped connectingrod 20 in the maximum opening of thedoor 12. - In the example shown, this stop element includes a threaded pass-through
hole 35 which extends from a lower side of theplate 27 facing the outside of the bottom as far as the guiding slot 28 (figure 4 ). A long grub screw or hexagon socketheadless screw 36 is inserted in this threadedhole 35, which can be actuated in front of thebottom 13, which limits the translation of thepin 21 in theguiding slot 28. - Alternatively, in place of the grub screw as stop element, a sliding cursor 136 can be provided in the seat, equipped with a return spring with the possibility of insertion and disengagement. Consequently, by limiting the run of the
pin 21 inside theslot 28, the movement degree of the shaped connectingrod 20 and therefore of the opening of the door, or the rototranslation of the connectingrod 20, can be selected. - As better illustrated in
figure 4a , this shows the angle of inclination according to which the pass-through threadedhole 35 is formed for limiting the run in theplate 27 according to an axis x. The threaded pass-throughhole 35 is in fact arranged according to an angle α with respect to anedge 55 of theplate 27 facing outwardly. Thisedge 55 of theplate 27 is parallel to an end side of thebottom 13 of the piece of furniture on which thedoor 12 is abutted so as to define a selected maximum opening for thedoor 12. This takes place specifically due to the fact that the grub screw or hexagon socketheadless screw 36 is arranged at least with one of its free ends protruding inside the guidingslot 28 so as to prevent the free sliding of thepin 21 as far as the run end. -
Figures 5 and6 show two selectable positions of the door in maximum opening. More specifically, from a position offigure 4 that can also be considered a position of the door just opened, the arrangement provided in the hinge of the invention allows two extremely precise and advantageous open-door positions to be obtained for the use of the furniture. -
Figure 5 shows a position in which thedoor 12 is open to a maximum of 95° and this position is reached in the following way. - In order to have this maximum opening of 95°, in fact, it is sufficient to form the threaded
hole 35 according to a predetermined angle α which allows a 95° opening of thedoor 12. Thelong grub screw 36 is then screwed into the threadedhole 35 passing through theplate 27, causing the free end to protrude into the guiding slot 28 (figure 5 ). This end of thegrub screw 36 prevents thepin 21 from sliding in the guidingslot 28, limiting its translation. - This limitation prevents the shaped connecting
rod 20 from moving outwardly from the position contained in the bottom 13 of the furniture and consequently thedoor 12 from opening further. - It should be taken into account that this limited maximum opening adjustment of 95° must be effected with the door/hinge of the furniture open by no more than 90°.
-
Figure 6 on the other hand shows what happens if thegrub screw 36 remains contained in the threadedhole 35 of theplate 27. The free end does not protrude into the guidingslot 28 and therefore does not prevent thepin 21 from sliding in the same for its entire length. - In this way, the shaped connecting
rod 20 can be brought outwards from its initial position (for examplefigure 4 ) contained in the bottom 13 of the furniture with thepin 21 constrained to it, which moves to the bottom of the guiding slot 28 (figure 6 ). - The
pin 21, completely covering the guidingslot 28, thus reaches the stop and fixes the maximum protrusion of the shaped connectingrod 20 and the maximum rotation of thedoor 12 which opens at an angle of 140-160°, preferably 150° from its initial position flanked to the outer edge of the bottom 13. This can be defined as the standard opening position, in any case having the certainty that thedoor 12 has an opening limitation. - It is therefore possible with a hinge according to the present invention to select the maximum opening of the door/hinge in two positions, according to the use or the user's preferences. It is clear that more than one stop element can be envisaged, thus defining various differentiated openings of the
door 12, if necessary and required. - The selection of the maximum opening of the door shown in the exemplary but non-limiting figures, can be 95° or 150°, it can be selected by adjusting the above-mentioned
grub screw 36 or other stop element according to its positioning. - The hinge of the present invention therefore allows at least a double opening position depending on the positioning of one or more run-stop elements arranged along the slot. The stop elements shown in the form of a grub screw can however be a lever, a cam or other stop elements having various forms that block the sliding of the pin in the guiding
slot 28. - Furthermore, a damping group is associated with said shaped connecting rod or
lever 20 which prevents thedoor 12 from hitting the furniture, closing too rapidly on the same. - This damping group is obtained thanks to the presence of a
cylinder 37, whosestem 38 is normally extended at rest, on one end of which a side portion of the shaped connectingrod 20 acts. More specifically, saidcylinder 37 with itsrelative stem 38 is positioned inside a housing or cap 39 which contains and guides it. And both are arranged at one end of a horizontal side of the L-shapedjoint 26 of thedoor 12. - In particular, the housing or
cap 39 providesside slots 40 arranged on facing sides in which final parts of ashaft 41 are inserted, that slides within the same. Theshaft 41 in turn acts on the free end of thecylinder 37 and on moving, it can cause the compression of thestem 38, therefore slowing down the closing run of the door. -
Figure 4 shows the position of the parts in an initial damping phase when closing the door on the piece of furniture. - The damping group according to the invention described therefore prevents the door/hinge from hitting the furniture and, as seen, is always present, but is only actuated before the door/hinge closes completely. This damping unit according to the invention is in fact actuated by the contact of the long connecting
rod 20 on thepin 41, or on the end of thecylinder 37. - The assembly of this damping group within the L-shaped
joint 26 of thedoor 12 hides it in the door frame, making it more protected and invisible from the outside. - As already mentioned, the
hinge 11 according to the invention has been seen to provide two adjustments, namely one in the frontal direction or depth and one in the side or horizontal direction. - The front adjustment is effected by adjustment of the
screw 31 which acts on thefront adjustment block 29. - The side adjustment is effected by means of the
screw 32 which acts on theside adjustment block 30. - According to the present invention, a third adjustment in a vertical direction is provided in this
hinge 11 through a vertical adjustment group, as will be seen hereunder with particular reference tofigure 7 . - For this purpose, it has been stated that the
block 25 is provided in the L-shapedjoint 26 of thedoor 12, ahole 42 being formed in said block, where a part of therotation pin 18 is housed around which thedoor 12 is caused to rotate with respect to the bottom 13 of the furniture. Thisrotation pin 18 in another portion thereof is arranged pivoted to the supportingarm 17, more specifically in ahole 43 of a right-angled extension 44 of theplate portion 19 of the supportingarm 17. Said right-angled extension 44 of theplate portion 19 of the supportingarm 17 is such that it extends outside the box-like element angled extension 44 is arranged so as to be able to be positioned below the horizontal portion of the L-shapedjoint 26 of thedoor 12, when thedoor 12 approaches the bottom 13 of the furniture for closure. - More specifically, the
block 25 is housed in a vertical portion of the L-shapedjoint 26 of thedoor 12 in correspondence with the joining of the two sides of said joint in a housing 45. In its upper part, theblock 25 has a horizontal threadedhole 46 which receives an adjustingscrew 47. A free end of this adjustingscrew 47 acts in contact on anadjustment cam 48 oscillating around apin 49 inserted in ahole 50 of theblock 25. - The vertical adjustment is carried out by acting on the adjusting
screw 47 which, in contact with theadjustment cam 48, forces the latter to rotate. Theadjustment cam 48 rotating on thepin 49 comes into contact with an upper end 51 of therotation pin 18. - This rotation causes a downward thrust which causes the vertical translation of the
block 25 and therefore of the whole door that is associated with the L-shaped joint 26. - It should be noted that this adjustment group, or rather the
block 25, is firmly fixed to the L-shaped joint 26 by means of ascrew 52. Furthermore, the fixing is ensured by an interlocking present, as a seat on the L-shaped joint 26 and as a key onblock 25. This allows a rigid junction of the two parts, thus avoiding a possible misalignment on therotation pin 18. - Also in this case, all of these elements (25, 47, 48, 49) of the vertical adjustment group are hidden from sight by a
cover 53 positioned as a side closure of the housing 45 of the L-shaped joint 26. - The part of the
hinge 11 positioned in the recessedseat 14 of the bottom 13 of a piece of furniture is contained, as already mentioned, in the box-like element, produced in twoparts screws 54. -
Figures 8 to 12 show a second embodiment of a hinge according to the present invention in which identical elements are indicated with the same reference numbers used for the embodiment shown infigures 3 to 7 . - In this further example, the positioning of a
spring 56 is provided, which causes the forced closing of the door with respect to the bottom 13 of a piece of furniture or similar furnishing item, when the door is open and has an opening equal to or less than 90°. - This
spring 56 is actuated in the example shown, directly by the shaped connectingrod 20, or by thepin 21, as can be seen from the attached figures. - In addition to the general structure of the pin hinge described for the first embodiment, in fact, in this example, the arrangement of a
slide 57 above theplate 27 is provided. Thisslide 57 slides inside a guidingchannel 58 formed in the body of the depth-adjustment block 29. Theslide 57 is U-shaped in the form of a profiled section, as is also the guidingchannel 58 which is complementary to it in shape. Afirst eyelet end 59 of thespring 56 is attached to afirst pin 60 which extends inside theslide 57. A secondopposite end 61 of thespring 56, also in the form of an eyelet, is hooked to asecond pin 62 which extends fromplate 27. - The
slide 57 moreover, almost in correspondence with one of its ends facing thesecond pin 62, extends below into atooth 63, protruding towards the inside of theplate 27 and sliding both with respect to theplate 27 and to the body of the depth-adjustment block 29 within respective recesses (not shown). -
Figure 9 shows how, in the closed hinge position, with the door close to the bottom 13 of the furniture, thepin 21 arranged in theslot 28 is still detached from thetooth 63. In this way theslide 57 is in the rest position and thespring 56 is at minimum load as previously determined. - Continuing to open the door up to 90°, the
pin 21 then slides into theslot 28 and thespring 56 only produces a certain resistance to opening up to 45°, which is however allowed. - Beyond 90°, the
pin 21 then tends to move from the position shown infigure 10 to the run end in theslot 28 as shown infigure 11 when the door is opened up to about 150°. - When the door is open (as for example in
figure 10 ), upon closing, there is therefore an initial loading of thespring 56 during the closing phase of the door, as thepin 21 at the end of the shaped connectingrod 20 pushes theslide 57 by acting on itstooth 63. This pushing action continues up to about half of the rotation of the closing door (about 45°) where there is the maximum extension of the spring 56 (figure 2 ). - From this point, the
spring 56 in tension and loaded exerts its return action of thedoor 12 until it moves back again to the rest position shown infigure 9 . - In this way, this further advantageous function of the pin hinge of the present invention is also exerted, ensuring a correct and constantly precise total closure of the hinge and the door connected to it.
- The new solutions proposed by a single-pin hinge according to the invention that prevent the door from being closed too rapidly, and hitting the furniture thanks to the damping unit, have therefore been seen.
- These solutions on the other hand, allow the maximum opening of the door/hinge to be selected in two positions, based on the requirements of use or the user's preferences for the specific application requested.
- Furthermore, the hinge of the present invention, in addition to possible adjustments according to a front and side direction, also allows the hinge to be adjusted in a vertical direction, improving and increasing its possible applications.
- All of this naturally without evidence of complex, bulky, expensive and aesthetically unsuitable mechanisms as in applications of the state of the art.
- The objective mentioned in the preamble of the description has thus been achieved.
- The protection scope of the present invention is defined by the enclosed claims.
Claims (16)
- A single-pin hinge (11) for doors and/or panels of furniture or furnishing items suitable for being positioned between a bottom (13) and a door (12) of a piece of furniture, said hinge being connected in a fixed part thereof within a recessed seat (14) of the bottom (13) of the furniture and in a movable part thereof, to said door (12), at least in correspondence with an edge (S) of said door (12), wherein
said fixed part of the hinge comprises a box-like element (15, 16) containing- at least partially a shaped supporting arm (17) of a rotation pin (18), wherein said rotation pin (18) is the point around which the articulation of the hinge (11) takes place and around which said door (12) is caused to rotate with respect to the bottom (13),- a shaped connecting rod (20), at least partially protruding from said box-like element (15,16) and provided with a rototranslation movement, said connecting rod (20) at a first end carrying a pin (21) sliding inside a guiding slot (28) of a plate (27) held in said box-like element (15,16) and at a second end being rotatably connected by means of a plug (23) to an L-shaped joint (26) arranged in correspondence with the edge (S) of said door (12),- a depth-adjustment block (29) and a horizontal- or side-adjustment block (30) arranged in correspondence with respective holes (33,34) and above said shaped arm (17);said movable part of the hinge comprises an L-shaped joint (26) arranged in correspondence with the edge (S) of said door (12) a spring (56) also being provided, connected at one end (61) to said plate (27) and at the other end (59) to a slide (57) which can be moved with respect to said plate (27) by means of said sliding pin (21) within a guiding slot (28) and integral with said shaped connecting rod (20). - The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 1, characterized in that said slide (57) furthermore, almost in correspondence with one of its ends arranged towards a pin (62) integral with said plate (27), extends below into a tooth (63), protruding towards the inside of the plate (27) and sliding with respect to both the plate (27) and a body of said depth-adjustment block (29) within respective recesses.
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 2, characterized in that said slide (57) slides in a guiding channel (58) formed in said body of said depth-adjustment block (29) and both are U-shaped.
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 1, characterized in that said L-shaped joint (26) provides an internal damping unit (37,39) which prevents the door (12) from hitting the furniture by closing too rapidly on the same.
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 4, characterized in that said damping group provides for the presence of a cylinder (37), whose stem (38) is normally extended at rest, on one end of which it acts on a side portion of the shaped connecting rod (20).
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 5, characterized in that said cylinder (37) with its relative stem (38) is positioned inside a housing or cap (39) which contains and guides it, both being arranged in an end of a horizontal side of the L-shaped joint (26), wherein said housing or cap (39) has side slots (40) arranged on facing sides, into which (40) end parts of a shaft (41) are inserted, which slides in the same and acts on a free end of the cylinder (37) and on moving, causes compression of the rod (38) slowing down the closing run of the door.
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to one or more of the previous claims from 1 to 6, characterized in that said plate (27) further provides at least one stop element (35,36;136), which can be actuated from the outside, which blocks the sliding of said pin (21) within said guiding slot (28) limiting the movement of the shaped connecting rod (20) in the maximum opening of the door (12).
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 7, characterized in that said at least one stop element comprises a pass-through threaded hole (35), which extends from a lower side of the plate (27) facing the outside of the bottom of the furniture as far as said guiding slot (28), and a grub screw or hexagon socket headless screw (36) inserted in said hole (35) and operable in front of the bottom (13) which blocks the sliding of said pin (21) within said guiding slot (28).
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 8, characterized in that said pass-through threaded hole (35) is arranged according to an angle (α) with respect to an edge of said plate (27) parallel to an end side of the bottom (13) on which said door (12) is abutted so as to define a maximum opening selected for said door (12) when said grub screw or hexagon socket headless screw (36) is arranged with at least one of its free ends in said guiding slot (28).
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 8, characterized in that said grub screw or hexagon socket headless screw (36) protruding from said threaded hole (35) in said slot (28) which is arranged at a predetermined angle (α), allows an opening of said door (12) of 95°.
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to one or more of the previous claims from 1 to 10, characterized in that said pin (21) arranged in said guiding slot (28) when brought to the run end allows a maximum opening of said door (12).
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 11, characterized in that said maximum opening of said door (12) is 150°.
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to one or more of the previous claims from 1 to 12, characterized in that said L-shaped joint (26) provides a housing (45) for a vertical adjustment block (25), said block adjustment (25) containing an adjustment cam (48) oscillating around a pin (49) inserted in a hole (50) of the block (25) and an adjusting screw (47) which acts on an upper end of said rotation pin (18) to lift said L-shaped joint (26) and said door (12) with respect to said shaped arm (17).
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to one or more of the previous claims from 1 to 13, characterized in that said supporting arm (17) comprises a plate portion (19) contained in said box-like element (15,16) and a right-angled extension (44) which extends outside said box-like element (15,16) and provides a hole (43) for said rotation pin (18).
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to claim 14, characterized in that said right-angled extension (44) of the plate portion (19) of the supporting arm (17) is such that it is arranged so that it can be placed in position below the horizontal portion of the L-shaped joint (26) of the door (12), when the door (12) approaches the bottom (13) of the furniture for closure.
- The single-pin hinge (11) according to one or more of the previous claims from 1 to 15, characterized in that said box-like element is produced in two parts (15,16), a lower part (15) which receives among other things said shaped arm (17) and an upper covering part (16).
