Description

Single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture or furnishing articles
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture or furnishing items.
Background
In furniture and/or furnishing items in general, doors and/or panels are provided which have to be or are able to be moved between a closed position and an open position in order to access or close a compartment or portion of the furniture.
To this end, different types of hinges may be used, such as older and more traditional hinges comprising a pair of wings extending from a central axis. One wing is connected to the furniture and the other wing is connected to the door, and the pin acts as an intermediate hinging element. For these hinges, there is usually no adjustment except for the presence of a fixation slot in the wing.
There are also more modern hinges with articulated quadrilateral, in particular complex hinges, which allow various types of adjustment, but which require recesses in the shoulder or in the door and which are made of a plurality of articulation pins cooperating with each other in the various possible movements of the hinge. These hinges are expensive and adjustment in all directions also creates certain difficulties.
There are also single-pin hinges without wings, in which the movement is more limited and which usually have an opening of 90 °, or allow the door to open without any angular limitation, thus causing collisions between the parts of the furniture.
There are also problems associated with the automatic closing of doors equipped with pin hinges of the type described above, since it is desirable to have an automatic reclosing with opening at least up to 90 °.

Detailed Description
In the following description, for the purpose of illustrating the drawings, the same reference numerals are used to designate structural elements having the same functions. Moreover, some numerical designations may not be repeated throughout the figures for clarity of illustration.
Indications such as "vertical" and "horizontal", "up" and "down" (without other indications) should be read with reference to the assembly (or operating) conditions and with reference to normal terminology used in the current language, wherein "vertical" indicates a direction substantially parallel to the gravity vector, and "g" indicates a horizontal direction perpendicular thereto.
Reference is made to the accompanying exemplary and non-limiting drawings, which show an embodiment of a single-pin hinge for doors and/or panels of furniture or furnishing items according to the invention.
Figures 1 and 2 show perspective views, completely schematic, showing the type of movement that can be achieved with the hinge according to the invention, showing the hinge in the closed position and in the maximum open position, respectively;
said figures 1 and 2 show how a single-pin hinge of this type, indicated as a whole with 11, is arranged between a door 12 and a bottom 13 of a piece of furniture or similar furnishing item.
Figures 3 to 7 show a first embodiment of a hinge according to the invention.
Fig. 4 shows in particular a top plan view of the hinge 11, in which the fixed part of the single-pin hinge according to the invention is connected in a recess 14 of the furniture bottom 13 and one of its movable parts is connected to the door 12 at least at one of its corners S. The hinge 11 is in an initial closing phase with the door 12. In this phase it can be seen how the damping phase is activated.
The housing 14 is adapted to house a box-like element made of two parts 15, 16, which in turn at least partially houses a shaped arm 17 supporting a rotation pin 18. The rotation pin 18 is the point about which the hinge 11 is hinged, or about which the door 12 rotates with respect to the bottom 13 of the piece of furniture.
As previously mentioned, the box-like element has a lower housing part 15 or female part and an upper covering part 16 or male part. In the lower part 15 of the box-like element there is at least the plate 19 of the support arm 17. Above the plate portion 19 there is a shaped link 20 with a pin 21 at a first end. The second end of the forming link 20 is rotatably connected to the door 12. The shaped link 20 in fact receives in its hole 22 formed in the second end a plug 23 received in a hole 24 formed in a block 25 associated with an L-shaped joint 26 of the door 12. The L-shaped joint 26 is associated with the horizontal and vertical portions of the door 12 and is arranged in correspondence with the edge S of the door 12.
The shaped link 20 is held in the recess 14 above the plate portion 19 by a further plate 27 in which a guide slot 28 is formed. The pin 21 is positioned in the guide slot 28 and causes movement of the shaped link 20.
It should be noted that a depth adjustment block 29 and a horizontal or side adjustment block 30 are disposed in the recess 14 above the plate portion 19 adjacent and alongside the other plate 27.
The socket head cap screws 31 and 32, which can be positioned frontally in corresponding holes 33 and 34 on one side of the two parts 15 and 16 of the box-like element, allow the above-mentioned adjustment action of the two blocks 29 and 30 when connected.
Finally, with respect to the constituent elements of the hinge 11, which are located in the portion of the furniture bottom 13 located in the recess 14, an arrangement is provided which allows to interfere with the possible opening of the door. In fact, in the other plate 27 there is also provided at least one stop element, which can be actuated from the outside, as will be seen in the examples below, which blocks the sliding of the pin 21 within the guide slot 28 and therefore limits the movement of the shaped link 20 in the maximum opening of the door 12.
In the example shown, the stop element comprises a threaded through hole 35 which extends from the underside of the plate 27 facing the bottom outside up to the guide groove 28 (fig. 4). A grub or socket head screw 36 is inserted in this threaded hole 35, which can be actuated in front of the bottom 13, which limits the translation of the pin 21 in the guide slot 28.
Alternatively, instead of a grub screw as a stop element, a sliding cursor 136 can be provided in the holder, which sliding cursor is equipped with a return spring that can be inserted and disengaged. Thus, by limiting the movement of the pin 21 within the slot 28, the degree of movement of the shaped link 20, and thus the degree of opening of the door, or the degree of rotational translation of the link 20, can be selected.
As better shown in fig. 4a, it shows the inclination according to which a threaded through hole 35 is formed for limiting the travel of the plate 27 along the axis x. The threaded through holes 35 are in fact arranged according to an angle α with respect to the outwardly facing edge 55 of the plate 27. This edge 55 of the plate 27 is parallel to the end side of the bottom 13 of the piece of furniture on which the door 12 rests, so as to define a selected maximum opening of the door 12. This is in particular due to the fact that the grub or socket head cap screw 36 is arranged with at least one of its free ends projecting inside the guide slot 28, so as to prevent the pin 21 from sliding freely up to the running end.
Figures 5 and 6 show two alternative positions of maximum opening of the door. More specifically, the arrangement provided in the hinge of the invention, which can also be considered from the position in fig. 4 as the position in which the door has just been opened, allows to obtain two very precise and advantageous positions of opening the door for the use of the piece of furniture.
Fig. 5 shows the position in which the door 12 is opened to a maximum of 95 deg., and this position is reached in the following manner.
In order to have a maximum opening of 95 °, it is practically sufficient to form the threaded hole 35 according to a predetermined angle α that allows the door 12 to open 95 °. The grub screw 36 is then screwed into the threaded hole 35 through the plate 27 so that the free end projects into the guide slot 28 (fig. 5). This end of the grub screw 36 prevents the pin 21 from sliding in the guide slot 28, thereby limiting its translation.
This restriction prevents the shaped link 20 from moving outwardly from the position contained in the furniture bottom 13 and thus prevents the door 12 from opening further.
It should be considered that in the case of furniture doors/hinges opening not more than 90 °, such a limited maximum opening adjustment of 95 ° must be achieved.
On the other hand, fig. 6 shows what happens if the grub screw 36 remains housed in the threaded through hole 35 of the plate 27. The free end does not protrude into the guide groove 28 and therefore cannot prevent the pin 21 from sliding in the guide groove over its entire length.
In this way, the shaped link 20 can be moved outwards from its initial position (for example fig. 4) contained in the furniture bottom 13 with the pin 21 constrained to it, the pin 21 moving to the bottom of the guide groove 28 (fig. 6).
The pin 21, which completely covers the guide slot 28, thus achieves a stop and fixes the maximum projection of the shaped link 20 and the maximum rotation of the door 12, which opens at an angle of 140 ° to 160 °, preferably 150 °, from the initial position in which its side meets the outer edge of the bottom 13. This can be defined as a standard open position, in any case determining that the door 12 has an opening limit.
Thus, the hinge according to the invention allows to select the maximum opening of the door/hinge in two positions according to the use or the user's preference. Obviously, more than one stop element can be envisaged, if necessary and desired, so as to define various openings of the door 12.
The choice of maximum opening of the door shown in the exemplary but non-limiting figures can be 95 ° or 150 °, which can be selected by adjusting the above-mentioned grub screws 36 or other stop elements according to their positioning.
The hinge of the invention thus allows at least a double opening position, depending on the positioning of one or more stop elements arranged along the slot. However, the stop element shown in the form of a grub screw may be a lever, cam or other stop element having various forms which prevent the pin from sliding in the guide slot 28.
Furthermore, a damping assembly is associated with said shaped link or rod 20, which prevents the door 12 from hitting the furniture and thus closing too quickly on the furniture.
The damping assembly is obtained thanks to the presence of a cylinder (cylinder)37, the rod 38 of which normally extends at rest, the side of the shaped connecting rod 20 acting on one end of the cylinder. More specifically, said cylinder 37, together with its associated rod 38, is located inside a housing or cover 39 which houses and guides it. And both are disposed at one end of the horizontal side of the L-shaped joint 26 of the door 12.
In particular, the housing or cover 39 provides side slots 40 arranged on the facing sides, into which the final part of the shaft 41 is inserted, which slide within the same side slots. The shaft 41 in turn acts on the free end of the cylinder 37 and, when moved, it can cause compression of the rod 38, thus slowing the closing operation of the door.
Fig. 4 shows the position of the components in the initial damping phase when closing a door on a piece of furniture.
The damping assembly according to the invention thus described prevents the door/hinge from hitting the furniture and, as can be seen, the damping assembly is always present, but is only actuated before the door/hinge is completely closed. The damping unit according to the invention is in fact actuated by the contact of the long connecting rod 20 on the pin 41 or on the end of the cylinder 37.
The assembly of the damping assembly within the L-shaped joint 26 of the door 12 conceals it in the door frame, making it more protected and invisible from the outside.
As mentioned above, it has been seen that the hinge 11 according to the invention provides two adjustments, one in the front direction or depth and one in the side or horizontal direction.
The front adjustment is achieved by adjusting a screw 31 acting on the front adjustment block 29.
Side adjustment is achieved by a screw 32 acting on the side adjustment block 30.
According to the invention, a third adjustment in the vertical direction is provided in this hinge 11 by means of a vertical adjustment assembly, as will be seen hereinafter with particular reference to fig. 7.
For this purpose, it has been said that the block 25 is provided in the L-shaped joint 26 of the door 12, in which block a hole 42 is formed, in which a portion of the rotation pin 18 is housed, about which the door 12 rotates with respect to the bottom 13 of the piece of furniture. The rotation pin 18 is pivotally arranged in another part thereof to the support arm 17, more specifically in a hole 43 of a right-angled extension 44 of the plate portion 19 of the support arm 17. Said right-angled extension 44 of the plate portion 19 of the support arm 17 is such that it extends outside the box- like elements 15, 16. Furthermore, said right-angled extension 44 is arranged so as to be able to be positioned below the horizontal portion of the L-shaped joint 26 of the door 12 when the door 12 is close to the bottom 13 of the piece of furniture in order to be closed.
More specifically, the block 25 is housed in the vertical portion of the L-shaped joint 26 of the door 12, corresponding to the connection of the two sides of said joint in the housing 45. In the upper part of the block 25 there is a horizontal threaded hole 46 which receives an adjusting screw 47. The free end of the adjustment screw 47 is in contact with an adjustment cam 48 oscillating around a pin 49 inserted in a hole 50 of the block 25.
The vertical adjustment is performed by acting on an adjustment screw 47 which comes into contact with an adjustment cam 48, forcing the latter to rotate. The adjustment cam 48, which rotates on the pin 49, is in contact with the upper end 51 of the rotation pin 18.
This rotation generates a downward thrust which translates the block 25 vertically, and therefore the entire door associated with the L-shaped joint 26.
It should be noted that the adjustment assembly, or block 25, is fixedly secured to the L-shaped fitting 26 by screws 52. Furthermore, the fixation is ensured by interlocking means which act as a seat on the L-shaped joint 26 and a key on the block 25. This allows a rigid connection of the two parts, avoiding possible misalignments on the rotation pin 18.
Also in this case, all these elements (25, 47, 48, 49) of the vertical adjustment assembly are hidden from view by the cover 53 positioned as a side closure of the housing 45 of the L-shaped joint 26.
As mentioned above, the portion of the hinge 11 located in the recess 14 of the bottom 13 of the furniture is housed in a box-like element made of two parts 15, 16, which is kept closed by a pair of screws 54.
Fig. 8 to 12 show a second embodiment of the hinge according to the invention, in which like elements are denoted by the same reference numerals as in the embodiment shown in fig. 3 to 7.
In this further example, there is provided a positioning of the spring 56 which causes a forced closing of the door with respect to the bottom 13 of a piece of furniture or similar furnishing item when the door is open and has an opening equal to or smaller than 90 °.
In the example shown, this spring 56 is actuated directly by the shaped link 20 or by the pin 21, as can be seen in the figures.
In addition to the general structure of the pin hinge structure described in the first embodiment, in practice, in this example, there is provided an arrangement of the slide 57 above the plate 27. The slide 57 slides within a guide channel 58 formed in the body of the depth adjustment block 29. The slide 57 is U-shaped in cross-section, as is a complementary shaped guide channel 58. The first eyelet end 59 of the spring 56 is connected to a first pin 60 extending within the slider 57. A second opposite end 61 of the spring 56, also in the form of an eyelet, is hooked on a second pin 62 extending from the plate 27.
Moreover, the slider 57 extends down into the tooth 63, almost in correspondence with one of its ends facing the second pin 62, protrudes towards the inside of the plate 27 and slides within a respective recess (not shown) with respect to the plate 27 and to the body of the depth-adjustment block 29.
Figure 9 shows that in the closed hinge position, the door is close to the bottom 13 of the furniture, the pin 21 arranged in the slot 28 still being separated from the tooth 63. Thus, the slider 57 is in the rest position and the spring 56 is at a minimum load as previously described.
Continuing to open the door to 90 deg., the pin 21 then slides into the slot 28 and the spring 56 only provides some resistance to opening to 45 deg., which is allowed, however.
Beyond 90 deg., when the door is opened to approximately 150 deg., the pin 21 then tends to move from the position shown in fig. 10 to the run end in the slot 28 as shown in fig. 11.
When the door is open (for example figure 10), in closing, during the closing phase of the door, there is an initial loading of the spring 56, since the pin 21 at the end of the shaped link 20 pushes the slider 57 by acting on its tooth 63. This pushing action continues until about half of the rotation of the closing door (about 45 °), where there is a maximum extension of the spring 56 (fig. 2).
From this point on, the spring 56 in its tensioned and loaded state exerts its return action on the door 12 until it again moves back to the rest position shown in fig. 9.
In this way, this further advantageous function of the pin hinge of the invention is also exerted, ensuring a correct and constantly precise complete closing of the hinge and of the door connected to it.
Thus, a new solution proposed by the single-pin hinge according to the invention has been seen, which prevents the door from closing too quickly and hitting the furniture, thanks to the damping unit.
On the other hand, these solutions allow selecting the maximum opening of the door/hinge in two positions based on the usage requirements or the user's preference for the particular application requested.
Furthermore, the hinge of the present invention allows adjustment of the hinge in a vertical direction, in addition to the front and side direction, thus improving and increasing its possible applications.
All of these naturally have no indication of a complex, bulky, expensive and aesthetically unsuitable mechanism, as in prior art applications.
The object mentioned in the preamble of the description has thus been achieved.
The scope of protection of the invention is defined by the appended claims.
