Definitions

  • Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to hair styling devices or appliances.
  • EP2272391A1 discloses an automated hair care process.
  • the hair treatment device has a heating unit, which is heated on an initial temperature.
  • the temperature is controlled by a temperature controller.
  • a sensor is arranged at the hair treatment device for measuring the data.
  • WO2017100229A1 discloses a hair styling apparatus, in which a first arm has a heating element and a contact plate heatable by the heating element and having a hair-contact surface. The second threshold temperature is higher than the first threshold temperature.
  • Tensile stress measures the tensile strength properties and is used in hair care and cosmetics industry to measure effects of topical application, chemical treatment, or the like.
  • the tensile strength properties are correlated with cortical properties and are not so much related to the cuticle. This measurement allows understand if the core is damaged by heat, chemical and so on. However, this requires a specific device for measurement.

  • Fig. 1 is a block diagram illustrating a hair styling device 10 in accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure.
  • the hair styling appliance may be a hair straightener, a hair curler, a curling wand or a crimping iron.
  • the hair styling device 10 includes a first arm 30 and a second arm 32, which may be coupled to the first arm 30 by a hinge at a respective end of the arms.
  • the arm can also be called a jaw or a clamping member.

  • the state sensor 28 can be a switch, for example.
  • the hair styling device 10 includes a controller 24 that receives the temperature signal from the temperature sensor 22 and the state signal from the state sensor 28. • the controller 24 can determine a variation or change in the hair temperature sensed by the temperature sensor 22 from stroke to stroke. For example, the controller 24 can determine the change in the hair temperature from the previous stroke to the current stroke. Then, the controller 24 can determine a count that the hair styling device 10 has operated on a same strand of hair based on the variation in the hair temperature, thereby controlling the hair styling.

  • the controller 24 may turn off the heaters 12 and/or 14. In this way, the strand of hair will not be damaged. Additionally or alternatively, the controller 24 may provide a visual and/or audible indication of the count. In this way, the user can learn the actual count of the strokes and the hair condition. Then the user can decide whether to proceed with the same strand of hair.
  • the temperature sensor is mounted inside the heating plate, usually next to the heater. During the stabilizing state, the temperature of the actual heating plate outer surface is unknown.
