Definitions
- the present invention belongs to the field of road marking, and more specifically to a method and a system for applying road marking comprising at least one strip of paint applied to a road along a route.
- the wearing course of a road degrades over time and must be resurfaced periodically.
- Rehabilitation of the surface course includes the planing of the degraded layer, and its replacement with a new surface course.
- a road marking essentially comprises one or more strips of paint, continuous or discontinuous, applied to the surface of the road surface.
- the strips of paint constitute longitudinal marks materializing traffic lanes.
- the positioning of the strips of paint must therefore meet numerous constraints. In particular, the strips must be positioned across the width of the road so as to correctly center the traffic lanes in relation to the limits of the roadway, so that the markings correspond in particular to the safety requirements which governed the design of the road. .
- Marking is currently done manually. Two operators travel along the road and regularly (every 20 to 30 meters) take readings of the distance of a strip of paint from a reference, which are transferred to a reference point corresponding to the position of the reading. Typically, a guardrail (steel or concrete) or any other similar element is used as a reference and as a support for the statement.
- the wearing course is planed, and a new wearing course is put in place, free of any markings.
- Two operators then come, and by means of the measurements taken, report all the points taken on the new wearing course. Then, these two operators position a stretched rope of a hundred meters on all the points while a third operator traverses this rope with a wash bottle of paint in order to create a very fine reference line called a pre-marking net.
- This paint line serves as a guide and reference for the passage of a paint application vehicle applying the final marking.
- US 8,467,968 B1 proposes a paint survey and application vehicle comprising a satellite positioning system receiver, an antenna supplying the receiver with a satellite positioning signal, a paint application unit, cameras filming the strip of paint in the direction of advancement, and a screen displaying the images acquired by the cameras, a visual cue appearing on the screen. The operator can thus monitor the alignment of the visual marker with the strip of paint.
- the virtual visual cue is tied to the camera.
- the camera must be aligned with the paint strip.
- This approach is complex because it requires precise adjustment of the camera, the optical axis of which must be perfectly coaxial with the direction of advance of the recovery vehicle. This results in a certain lack of precision.
- the object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks at least in part and preferably to all of them, and aims in particular to propose a method for applying a marking according to claim 1 and a system for applying a marking according to claim 8.
- the first step of the method involves a survey vehicle 10.
- the survey vehicle 10 comprises a satellite positioning system receiver 11 and an antenna 12 supplying the receiver with a satellite positioning signal.
- the satellite positioning system also known by the English acronym GNSS for “Global Navigation Satellite System” can for example be the GPS, GLONASS or even Galileo system, or preferably a combination thereof.
- the antenna is preferably arranged more than 1.5 m from the ground, and preferably exceeds the roof of the recovery vehicle 10 in order to allow reception of satellites over the widest horizon. possible.
- the recovery vehicle 10 also includes a radio frequency communication receiver receiving a correction signal for the satellite positioning signal.
- the radiofrequency communication receiver is typically a receiver of a global system for communication with mobiles, better known by the acronym of GSM for “Global System for Mobile Communications”.
- the radio frequency communication receiver is coupled to the satellite positioning system receiver 11 to correct the determination of the geolocation data.
- the technique implemented is real-time kinematics, better known by the English acronym RTK for “Real Time Kinematic” based on the use of measurements of the phase of the carrier waves of the positioning signals by satellites.
- a reference station near the recovery vehicle 10 receives a satellite positioning signal and from measurements of the phase of the carrier wave of the satellite positioning signal, determines and provides real-time corrections by radio frequency signal to the survey vehicle 10, which can then implement a correction of the positioning signal by satellites. This correction makes it possible to achieve improved precision, typically of the order of 1 cm or less than 1 cm.
- the survey vehicle 10 can be equipped with a gyroscope whose measurements make it possible to compensate for any offset between the position of the antenna (in height) and the location on the ground that one seeks to geolocate, which could be caused by a lack of horizontality of the survey vehicle 10, for example caused by the cant of the road.
- the satellite positioning system receiver 11 is preferably coupled to both the radio frequency communication receiver and the gyroscope.
- the recovery vehicle 10 advances on the road 1 in a direction of advance, materialized by an arrow on the figure 1 .
- the vehicle follows the path of the strip of paint 2, and the survey vehicle 10 determines geolocation data of the path followed from the satellite positioning signal, and preferably also from the correction signal received by the receiver of radio frequency communications.
- Paint strip 2 is typically made up of the left paint strip (as shown in figure 1 ) or a straight line delimiting Route 1, but could also be an axial strip of paint separating two traffic lanes.
- a visual cue is aligned with the paint strip.
- the visual mark is aligned with a side edge of the strip of paint 2, for example the right edge or the left edge of the strip of paint 2 (in the direction of advance). This makes it possible to standardize and refine the precision, a strip of paint 2 typically being several centimeters wide.
- the visual marker 14 is an arm integral with the lifting vehicle, which extends from the vehicle above the strip of paint.
- the arm 14 is typically provided with a sighting member 15, which is the element to be aligned with part of the strip of paint.
- the end of the arm 14 constituted by the sighting member 15 is preferably arranged as close as possible to the strip of paint 2, that is to say at low altitude (typically less than 20 cm) with respect to the strip paint 2.
- the recovery vehicle 10 can comprise a camera 16 filming the strip of paint 2 in the direction of advance, and a screen 17 displaying the images acquired by the camera 16, the visual cue 14 appearing on the screen 17.
- the operator can thus monitor the alignment of the visual cue 14 with the strip of paint, while driving the recovery vehicle 10, without constraint as to the layout of the cue visual 14 and its direct visibility by the operator driving the recovery vehicle 10.
- the visual marker 14 is an element such as an arm, the latter extends in the acquisition field of the camera 16, just above the strip of paint 2 which is filmed (and followed by the recovery vehicle 10).
- the visual cue 14 only appears on the screen 17, as for example in the case of a virtual visual cue, and is therefore linked to the camera 16.
- the camera 16 which acts as a visual marker which must be aligned with the strip of paint.
- this approach is more complex because it requires precise adjustment of the camera 16, the optical axis of which must be perfectly coaxial with the direction of travel of the recovery vehicle 10.
- the visual marker 14 be aligned with the antenna 12 in the direction of advance.
- a device of the line and point laser level type is used to ensure beforehand (before the reading) a perfect alignment between the visual marker 14 and the antenna 12.
- the alignment is preferably absolute, that is to say that the visual marker 14 and the antenna 12 is in the same plane extending in the direction of travel, perpendicular to the road 1.
- the alignment may only be relative, one of the marker visual 14 and the antenna 12 being offset (perpendicular to the direction of travel) relative to the plane extending in the direction of travel, perpendicular to the road 1, and which contains the other.
- the offset is known and constant, and a simple translation of the coordinates of the geolocation data makes it possible to find data similar to those obtained with an absolute alignment.
- the survey vehicle 10 tracks the path of the strip of paint 2 in the direction of advance by aligning the visual marker 14 with the strip of paint 2, and determines geolocation data of the path followed from the positioning signal by satellites that the recovery vehicle 10 receives during the follow-up of the route.
- the geolocation data is representative of the location of the strip of paint 2.
- the recovery vehicle 10 can thus be a van or a van, or even a car, which allows a faster survey of the road marking than with a specialized self-propelled road marking machine, for a lower cost, with a great autonomy allowing a survey over several tens miles if needed.
- the path of the paint strip can be tracked at 7 or 8 km/h, with a geolocation data recording frequency of 50 Hz, i.e. a location point every 4 to 5 cm.
- the geolocation data of the route followed therefore includes location coordinates, which make it possible to locate the road marking, and local characteristics linked to the nature of the road marking, such as for example the presence or absence of paint at a location coordinate , or even the type of road marking (single band, double band, etc.) at this location coordinate.
- the wearing course can be renovated, during a stage in the repair of Route 1 involving the disappearance of the road markings. It should be noted that the raising is not necessarily carried out immediately before the rehabilitation of the wearing course. Thanks to the storage of the geolocation data, it is possible to follow the path of the strip of paint 2 well before the repair, especially since the recovery vehicle 10 can travel on a road open to traffic (subject to a possible report), while the manual survey requires a road closed to traffic, and is therefore most often carried out at the time of the rehabilitation.
- modifying the geolocation data may comprise modifying the geolocation of the route followed or even modifying the characteristics of the road marking associated with the same location coordinate, or even both.
- geolocation data of the road marking resulting from the monitoring of the path of the strip of paint 2 are loaded into a computer, and are modified therein. It is possible to modify the format of the geolocation data to make their modifications easier, and in particular to match them with a base map which will serve as a support for the modifications made.
- geolocation data may be in a geographic information system file format such as shapefile format, and may be converted into a projection used in reference mapping, such as a conformal conic projection. of Lambert such as the Lambert93 projection.
- Geolocation data are then regenerated from the visualization of the road marking thus modified, in order to be able to be used subsequently in the method of applying the road marking.
- modifications of the geolocation data of the road marking can be carried out without recourse to a visualization on a background map.
- this modification can be carried out by a simple translation on the location coordinates of the geolocation data of the road marking.
- the visualization makes any modification easier, and especially allows to control the result.
- the next step consists in guiding a paint application vehicle in a forward direction from the geolocation data of the route followed previously obtained in the previous step, which will be described with reference to the figures 3 and 4 .
- the paint application vehicle 20 includes a satellite positioning system receiver 21 and an antenna 22 providing the receiver 21 with a satellite positioning signal.
- the paint application vehicle 20 may also include a radio frequency communication receiver receiving a correction signal for the satellite positioning signal, and/or a gyroscope. Since the characteristics of these elements are the same as for the recovery vehicle 10, they will not be detailed again. It should also be noted that the recovery vehicle 10 and the paint application vehicle 20 can be one and the same vehicle. Preferably, however, the lifting vehicle 10 and the paint application vehicle 20 are separate.
- the paint application vehicle 20 comprises a paint application member 24 applying the paint on the road 1.
- the paint applied may be a pre-marking prior to the application of the final road marking, or well be directly the final road marking.
- the antenna 22 is preferably aligned beforehand by a line and point laser level (as previously with the recovery vehicle 10) with the paint application member 24, that is to say either with the wash bottle which will carry out the pre-marking or with the spray nozzles which will carry out the final marking.
- the paint application vehicle 20 applies a pre-marking, consisting of a line of paint 3
- the method comprises a subsequent step of applying a strip of paint 2 (which then constitutes the final road marking) following the paint line 3 of the pre-marking.
- the paint application vehicle 20 may comprise means for determining the distance traveled, in order to activate and deactivate the application of paint according to a spatial period to carry out a band of paint 2 discontinuous.
- pre-marking can be easily corrected in the event of an incident, manually by a new pre-marking, or when applying the final road marking.
- the presence of a continuous pre-marking paint line 3 allows the pre-marking line to be followed by a paint application vehicle 20 even after the road marking has been carried out, despite the possible discontinuity of the strip of painting 2 of the final road marking. Following line 3 of pre-marking makes it possible to apply the paint of the final road marking at a faster pace (about 4 km/h), compared to a situation where the pre-marking is absent.
- the paint application member 24 comprises an end 25 which can take, in the case of pre-marking, the form of a wash bottle 25 which applies a thin stream of paint to the ground forming the paint line 3, and in the case of marking, the shape of a paint spray nozzle applying a strip of paint to the ground 2.
- the paint applicator member 24 is aligned with the antenna 22 in the direction of travel, so that the position determined by the satellite positioning signal corresponds to the position of the paint applicator member 24, for the same reasons and according to the same methods as the alignment of the sighting device 14 and the antenna 12 of the recovery vehicle 10.
- the paint application vehicle 20 may comprise an additional paint application member 26 attached to the paint application vehicle 20 by an offset arm 27, configured to apply paint at a predetermined distance from the paint application member.
- the paint application vehicle 20 comprises a navigation controller 28 controlling the paint application vehicle 20 from the geolocation data of the route followed and from the satellite positioning signal, and preferably also from the correction signal received by the radio frequency communication receiver.
- the geolocation data are transferred from the survey vehicle 10 to the paint application vehicle 20, possibly with intermediate storage.
- the transfer of the data can be done by any possible means, such as for example by using a USB key (for the English "Universal Serial Bus” meaning universal serial bus) or a network communication (possibly via a remote server).
- the navigation controller 28 acts on the steering organs of the paint application vehicle 20 in order to make the geolocation data of the route followed coincide with the real-time position data derived from the satellite positioning signal.
- the trajectory of the paint application vehicle 20, determined via the satellite positioning signal, is modified by the navigation controller 28 to follow the path of the strip of paint which was previously followed by the recovery vehicle 10.
- Navigation controller 28 typically includes multiple gyroscopes to provide trajectory tracking by paint application vehicle 20.
- the paint applied by the paint application vehicle 20 corresponds, in terms of position, to the strip of paint followed by the raising vehicle 10, and therefore that the paint application vehicle 20 follows exactly the same path as recovery vehicle 10. It may, however, be desirable for paint application vehicle 20 to follow a path offset from the path of recovery vehicle 10.
- the paint application vehicle 20 may apply the paint for the central, or axial, strip of paint between two traffic lanes.
- the paint application vehicle 20 is then positioned in the middle of the road, as on the picture 3 .
- the method comprises a step of shifting the geolocation data in which the coordinates are translated perpendicularly to the route followed by a predetermined value corresponding to a width of the traffic lane.
- the method comprises a subsequent step or a paint application vehicle 20a, which may be the same or may be different , applies paint along a line of pre-marking paint, in order to form a strip of paint 2 forming the final road marking.

Description
The present invention belongs to the field of road marking, and more specifically to a method and a system for applying road marking comprising at least one strip of paint applied to a road along a route.
The wearing course of a road degrades over time and must be resurfaced periodically. Rehabilitation of the surface course includes the planing of the degraded layer, and its replacement with a new surface course.
During this repair, the road marking present on the degraded wearing course disappears, and a new road marking must be made on the new wearing course. A road marking essentially comprises one or more strips of paint, continuous or discontinuous, applied to the surface of the road surface. The strips of paint constitute longitudinal marks materializing traffic lanes. The positioning of the strips of paint must therefore meet numerous constraints. In particular, the strips must be positioned across the width of the road so as to correctly center the traffic lanes in relation to the limits of the roadway, so that the markings correspond in particular to the safety requirements which governed the design of the road. .
The application of a road marking is therefore a delicate and tedious operation. For this reason, when resurfacing a road, it is first necessary to raise the existing marking in order to reproduce it on the new wearing course.
Marking is currently done manually.
Once the survey has been carried out, the wearing course is planed, and a new wearing course is put in place, free of any markings. Two operators then come, and by means of the measurements taken, report all the points taken on the new wearing course. Then, these two operators position a stretched rope of a hundred meters on all the points while a third operator traverses this rope with a wash bottle of paint in order to create a very fine reference line called a pre-marking net. This paint line serves as a guide and reference for the passage of a paint application vehicle applying the final marking.
The current process is very long and very labour-intensive. In addition, operators have to move on foot, in the middle of construction machinery (planer, compactors, etc.), which is dangerous and likely to cause accidents. Finally, insofar as the method is based on several steps requiring human intervention, errors and inaccuracies are liable to degrade the precision of the road marking. Furthermore, the current process requires raising the road markings each time the wearing course is repaired.
However, the virtual visual cue is tied to the camera. In this case, the camera must be aligned with the paint strip. This approach is complex because it requires precise adjustment of the camera, the optical axis of which must be perfectly coaxial with the direction of advance of the recovery vehicle. This results in a certain lack of precision.
The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks at least in part and preferably to all of them, and aims in particular to propose a method for applying a marking according to

The reception of the positioning signal by satellites makes it possible to determine geolocation data locating the
Cette correction permet d'atteindre une précision améliorée, typiquement de l'ordre de 1 cm ou inférieure à 1 cm.More precisely, the technique implemented is real-time kinematics, better known by the English acronym RTK for “Real Time Kinematic” based on the use of measurements of the phase of the carrier waves of the positioning signals by satellites. A reference station near the
Furthermore, in order to further improve the precision of the location of the antenna, the
When tracking, a visual cue is aligned with the paint strip. Preferably, the visual mark is aligned with a side edge of the strip of
In the example illustrated, the
In order to facilitate the alignment of the
Insofar as a very precise location (less than one centimeter) of the strip of
The
The geolocation data of the route followed therefore includes location coordinates, which make it possible to locate the road marking, and local characteristics linked to the nature of the road marking, such as for example the presence or absence of paint at a location coordinate , or even the type of road marking (single band, double band, etc.) at this location coordinate.
Once the survey has been carried out, the wearing course can be renovated, during a stage in the repair of
It should be noted that it is possible to modify the geolocation data resulting from the monitoring of the path of the strip of
Like the
The
It is more advantageous to carry out pre-marking prior to the final road marking for several reasons. The pre-marking can be easily corrected in the event of an incident, manually by a new pre-marking, or when applying the final road marking. Furthermore, the presence of a continuous
The
