Abstract

It consists of an array of two or more ribs perpendicular to the back side of the plate, collecting ribs (8) outside the heating element contour to collect the heating escaped from the sides either directly irradiated or reflected in the appliance reflector. The balancing ribs (9) are located inside the heating element contour in low temperature regions and absorb the diffuse radiation of the heating elements, raising the temperature to them.

Description

Griller or sandwich maker plate with removable plates of high performance and temperature uniformity
The invention relates to the structural configuration (details design) of the griller or sandwich maker grilling plate with removable plates, so that the losses are reduced and the appliance performance is improved, while at the same time reducing its non- uniformities resulting from the configuration of the heating element.
Regarding grillers with removable plates, the heating element is typically located at a distance from the appliance grilling plate, and the energy is transferred to it by radiation. These components (on which the heating element is mounted) are generally called reflectors.
Due to the way the appliances are manufactured, the heat transfer from the heating elements through radiation is directed partly to the appliance grilling plate and partly (quite important) to the environment (the appliance’s sides or interior).
In order to reduce the extent of the losses, the reflectors, in which the heating elements are assembled, are made of reflective materials and are suitably configured, so that the radiant heat returns as far as possible to the grilling plate.
Also according to the earlier invention of the same inventor, it is possible to reduce the losses by using a double reflector. The construction, according to this invention, limits the radiant heat inside the appliance.
To further reduce losses, ribs are sometimes placed on the appliance plate (on the path of heating element) to increase the heat absorption and lessen the losses inside the appliance. However, these ribs, by locally concentrating high temperature, create non- uniformities in the grilling plate temperature and, hence, there is no homogeneous grilling. At the same time due to the high temperature of the plate, part of the heat is locally re-radiated towards the outside environment.
According to the present invention, on the one hand, there is an increase in heat absorption and a reduction of losses on the outside of the appliance by using a collecting ribs (8) array on the outside of the heating element contour without causing excessive temperature increases in the grilling plate. On the other hand, there is an increase in temperature uniformity with the addition of temperature balancing ribs (9) in the inside, in the points where the heating element shape does not provide the appropriate radiation amount.
The external ribs array consists of two or more ribs of different height, so that each collects part of the heating element radiation. Therefore, the heat is not released to the environment and no overheating occurs. The assembly of the collecting ribs array (8) is dimensioned such that the first is shorter than the next (s) to collect only part of the radiant heat (the horizontally directed radiation), and the next(s) is (are) longer to collect the remaining escaped radiation.
Since the radiant heat to the sides is collected from more than one rib, no overheating is observed. The difference in rib height as well as the significant increase in the heat exchange area on the appliance sides (due to the ribs) contribute to this.
The internal temperature balancing ribs (9) collect locally radiant heat only at points, where lower temperatures are observed, in order to homogenise the plate
temperatures.
Figure 1 shows a longitudinal sectional view of the constructional details of a griller, as well as the constructional design of the plate with the collecting ribs (8) and balancing ribs (9), so that the appliance efficiency is improved while saving energy. On the reflector (1) surface the appliance heating element (2) is located. The assembly of these two components is mounted onto the appliance upper (3) or lower (4) bodies (griller). The grilling plates (5) are placed by the user over the assembly of these two components using the supports (6), (7) at the front and back respectively of the appliance upper or lower body. This support allows the user to easily remove or place them, so that it is easy to clean them after use.
The same figure shows the details of the plate with the arrays of the peripheral temperature collecting ribs (8), as well as of the temperature balancing ribs (9), which improve the uniformity of the low temperature regions.
Figure 2 shows the components involved in this structure in a cross-sectional way.
Figure 3 shows a plate form with collecting (8) and balancing ribs (9), which, as discussed above, lessen the appliance losses and improve its performance.
Figure 4 shows a detail of Figure 1, so that the structure of the collecting ribs array (8) is distinct. Figure 5 shows a detail of Figure 2, so that the structure of the collecting ribs (8) and balancing ribs array (9) is distinct.

Claims

1. It consists of an array of ribs perpendicular to the back side of the plate outside the heating element contour, so that the radiant heat from the heating elements is trapped and is not released to the environment. The array ribs having different heights absorb a small amount of heat each. Therefore, the plate does not overheat at these points. At the same time, in the regions, where the temperature inside the heating elements contour has to be raised, the balancing ribs are added to help increase locally the temperature by absorbing the diffuse heating element radiation.
2. The two ribs (interior, exterior), according to claim 1, may be of the same or different length, depending on the heat that the appliance heating element emits in the region.
3. The array of two ribs, according to claims 1 & 2, may consist of three ribs of different height of same or different length, depending on the heat that the heating element emits in the corresponding plate region.
