Claims (7)

  1. A box spring having a base (24), a number of slats (22) for supporting the base (24), a frame (20) for receiving the slats (22), and a number of legs (18) to space the frame (20) from the floor, wherein
    the frame (20) has a head segment (56) held at a middle crossbeam (30);
    wherein the head segment (56) has a head crossbeam (28), a right head side rail (34) foldable in itself, and a left head side rail (36) foldable in itself;
    wherein the right head side rail (34) has a middle element (44) pivotably held at the middle crossbeam (30) and a head element (42) pivotably held at the head crossbeam (28); and
    wherein the left head side rail (36) has a middle element (44) pivotably held at the middle crossbeam (30) and a head element (42) pivotably held at the head crossbeam (28) such that the head segment (56) can be pushed together after folding in the right head side rail (34) and the left head side rail (36) such that the box spring can be shipped by commercial mail packages having a maximum size of 80 cm x 80 cm x 120 cm;
    or
    wherein the frame (20) has a foot segment (58) held at a middle crossbeam (30);
    wherein the foot segment (58) has a foot crossbeam (32), a right foot side rail (38) foldable in itself, and a left foot side rail (40) foldable in itself;
    wherein the right foot side rail (38) has a middle element (48) pivotably held at the middle crossbeam (30) and a foot element (48) pivotably held at the foot crossbeam (32); and
    wherein the left foot side rail (34) has a middle element (46) pivotably held at the middle crossbeam (30) and a foot element (48) pivotably held at the foot crossbeam (42) such that the foot segment (58) can be pushed together after folding in the right foot side rail (34) and the left foot side rail (40) such that the box spring can be shipped by commercial mail packages having a maximum size of 80 cm x 80 cm x 120 cm; wherein the head element (42) of the head side rail (42) of the head side rail (34, 36) is foldably held at the middle element (44) of the head side rail (34, 36) via a folding joint (50); and/or
    wherein the foot element (46) of the foot side rail (38, 40) is foldably held at the middle element (48) of the foot side rail (38, 40) via a folding joint (50),
    characterized in that
    the folding joint (50) is formed from a fitting (72) bent in U shape and a respective one joint axle (74) for the middle element (44) and for the head element (42) of the head side rail (34, 36) or for the middle element (46) and for the foot element (48) of the foot side rail (38, 40), with at least one joint axle receiver opening (76) for receiving a joint axle (74) being formed for each joint axle (74) in the fitting (72).
  2. A box spring in accordance with the preceding claim, characterized in that
    the frame (20) has the head segment (56) and the foot segment, with the head segment (56) being provided on a first side of the middle crossbeam (30), while the foot segment (58) is provided on a second side of the crossbeam (30) disposed opposite the first side, such that the head segment (56) and/or the foot segment (58) can be pushed together such the box spring can be shipped by commercial mail packages having a maximum size of 80 cm x 80 cm x 120 cm.
  3. A box spring in accordance with one of the preceding claims, characterized in that
    the slats (22) are arranged in the longitudinal direction, with at least one slat (22) being held at the head element (42) both at the head crossbeam (28) and at the middle crossbeam (30), and/or with at least one slat (22) being held at the foot element (46) both at the foot crossbeam (32) and at the middle crossbeam (30).
  4. A box spring in accordance with one of the preceding claims, characterized in that
    the middle element (44) of the head side rail (36) is pivotably held at the middle crossbeam (30) via a pivot joint (54); and/or in that the head element (42) of the head side rail (36) is pivotably held at the head crossbeam (28) via a pivot joint (52); and/or in that the middle element (46) of the foot side rail (38) is pivotably held at the middle crossbeam (30) via a pivot joint (52); and/or in that the foot element (46) of the foot side rail (38, 40) is pivotably held at the foot crossbeam (32) via a pivot joint (52).
  5. A box spring in accordance with claim 4,
    characterized in that
    the pivot joint (52, 54) has upper and lower pivot fittings (62, 70) as well as a joint axle (64), with both the upper pivot fitting (62, 70) and the lower pivot fitting (62, 70) being fastened to the head crossbeam (28) or to the middle crossbeam (30) or to the foot crossbeam (32), while the joint axle (64) extends through the head element (42) or the middle element (44, 46) or the foot element (48).
  6. A box spring in accordance with one of the claims 4 or 5, characterized in that
    the pivot joint (52, 54) has means for receiving a leg (18); in particular in that the means for receiving a leg (18) comprise a holding bore.
  7. A box spring in accordance with at least one of the preceding claims, characterized in that
    a number of means (60) for receiving a respective slat (22) to support the base (24) are provided at the middle crossbeam (30) and at the head crossbeam (28); and/or in that a number of means (60) for receiving a respective slat (22) to support the base (24) are provided at the middle crossbeam (30) and at the foot crossbeam (32).
