Definitions

  • the present invention relates, in general, to equipment for the practice of scuba diving.
  • ballast for scuba diving belts as described, for example, in JP S 56161888 U .
  • a ballast is a heavy body which is used to ballast / load an element, in particular with the aim of increasing its mass.
  • weights are used by divers to immerse themselves properly.
  • ballasting is for example carried out by means of a scuba diving belt, also commonly referred to as “weight belt” or “weight belt”.
  • Such a belt conventionally comprises a belt band which is held around the waist of the diver by means of a quick fixing system. To ensure ballasting, weights are distributed over the length of this belt band.
  • the weights in question may consist of a part made of raw lead. But these weights, standard, are not very successful and fragile.
  • the weights can also consist of a part comprising a metal core (lead for example) which is covered by a coating, generally a plastic coating.
  • the coating is generally deposited by immersing the metal core in the coating material which is in liquid form; this material then freezes around the metal core to form the coating.
  • the coating obtained generally comprises a solid color, with reduced possibilities of aesthetic choice and customization; nor does it confer any choice on the surface finish.
  • the present invention provides a novel weight structure for a scuba diving belt.
  • This ballast comprises - a metal core covered by a coating, and - means for its assembly with a belt band; and it is characterized in that said coating is in the form of an attached shell consisting of at least one shell part which is made of a plastic material and which is held around said metal core by means of means of solidarity.
  • the present invention also relates to a scuba diving belt, comprising a belt band on which weights as defined above are attached.
  • the present invention also relates to a process for the manufacture of such a ballast.
  • This method comprises: - a step of supplying the metal core and the shell part (s), and - a step of securing the shell part (s) with the metal core and / or one with the other, for their maintenance around said metal core.
  • the step of providing the shell piece (s) comprises an operation of manufacturing said shell piece (s) by injection molding.
  • the scuba diving belt 1, shown on the figure 1 is intended to equip the size of a plunger P (only the size of this plunger is represented very schematically on the figure 1 ).
  • This diving belt 1, still commonly referred to as a “weight belt”, constitutes a ballast which will allow the diver to immerse himself correctly and without difficulty in the aquatic environment.
  • the diving belt 1 comprises: - a belt band 2, and - several weights 3, still commonly referred to as "weights”.
  • the belt band 2 can be made of different materials, for example polypropylene (nylon type), rubber, etc.
  • This belt band 2 is equipped with closure means (not shown), which are conventional per se, for example a plastic buckle or a metal buckle.
  • the weights 3 are attached and distributed over the length of the belt band 2.
  • weights 3 is illustrated in general, and schematically, on the figures 2 and 3 .
  • the other weights 3 fitted to the belt band 2 advantageously have an identical or similar structure.
  • the metal core 4 is advantageously made in one piece, typically in lead.
  • This metal core has, for example, a weight of between 500g and 2kg.
  • the metal core 4 comprises a general median plane 4 ', extending parallel and at an equal distance from the two end faces 411, 412.
  • Each through slot 414 has an elongated shape, with a horizontal section (parallel to the general median plane 4 ') which is generally rectangular in shape.
  • the coating 5 is in the form of a shell formed by the assembly of shell parts 6, 7 which are held around the metal core 4 by means of means of securing 8.
  • the hull parts 6, 7, shown separately on the figures 4 and 5 are made of plastic material, advantageously rigid or semi-rigid, namely for example polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene, ABS, polyamide, etc.
  • PVC polyvinyl chloride
  • ABS polyethylene
  • polyamide polyamide
  • the coating 5 here comprises two shell pieces 6, 7, complementary to one another. These shell parts 6, 7 are shaped so as to cover the entire external surface 41 of the metal core 4.
  • the outer surface 62, 72 of the shell parts 6, 7 advantageously has an aesthetic appearance or a decoration, for example a camouflage pattern, which makes it possible to adjust the aesthetics of the ballast 3 as desired.
  • the two surfaces 61, 62 and 71, 72 of a shell part 6, 7 extend here parallel, or at least approximately parallel, with respect to one another.
  • These two surfaces 61, 62 and 71, 72 define the thickness of the shell part 6, 7. This thickness is for example between 0.1 and 3 mm.
  • peripheral skirts 64, 74 and the center skirts 65, 75 each have a free border 641, 741, 651, 751, respectively.
  • each shell part 6, 7 also comprises a central portion 635, 735 formed between the two slots 632, 732, themselves formed between two side portions 636, 736.
  • the central portion 635, 735 is offset in height with respect to the side portions 636, 736 juxtaposed.
  • the term “height offset” also means an offset between, on the one hand, the plane passing through the central portion 635, 735 and, on the other hand, the plane passing through the lateral portions 636, 736.
  • This height offset advantageously corresponds approximately to the thickness of the belt band 2, intended to be threaded through the ballast 3, to optimize its positioning on the plunger and for the belt band 2 to extend into the 'thickness of the ballast 3.
  • a “recessed” portion is located at a reduced distance from the general median plane 4 ′, relative to at least one juxtaposed portion.
  • the two shell pieces 6, 7 are held around the metal core 4 by means of securing means 8.
  • the securing means 8 comprise interlocking means formed at the level of the free edges 641, 741, 651, 751 mentioned above.
  • the free edges 641, 651 of one of the shell pieces 6 cooperate by interlocking with the free edges 741, 751 of the other of the shell pieces 6, 7.
  • the free edges 641, 651 of a shell part 6 have a dihedral interior recess 642, 652 (illustrated in detail for a central skirt 65 on the figure 5 ).
  • interior indentation is understood to mean a indentation provided at the level of the inner surface of the skirt.
  • the free edges 741, 751 of the other shell part 7 each have an external recess 742, 752 dihedral (illustrated in detail for a central skirt 75 on the figure 4 ) which is complementary to an internal recess 642, 652 above.
  • external indentation is understood to mean a indentation formed at the level of the outer surface of the skirt.
  • Each recess 642, 652, 742, 752 advantageously extends over half the thickness of the associated skirt 64, 65, 74, 75.
  • the bonding means consist for example of an adhesive attached between the inner surface 61, 71 of the shell parts 6, 7 and the outer surface 41 of the metal core 4; in a complementary or alternative manner, this adhesive can be deposited at the level of the associated free edges 641, 741 and 651, 751.
  • This adhesive is for example chosen from plastic solvents, cyanoacrylates, epoxies, neoprenes, etc.
  • the heat-sealing means consist, for example, in producing a thermal seal at the level of the free edges 641, 741 and 651, 751 associated to form a weld line.
  • This heat sealing is for example carried out by means of a high frequency welding or heating blades.
  • the step of supplying the shell parts 6, 7 advantageously comprises a step of manufacturing these shell parts, 6, 7 by compression, thermoforming or even preferably by injection molding.
  • Each shell part 6, 7 manufactured then has an aesthetic pattern, or decoration, sought after.
  • the securing step consists, as the case may be, of at least one of the following securing steps: gluing, interlocking, heat-sealing.
  • the metal core 4 is thus completely covered by the two shell pieces 6, 7, here forming a continuous shell.
  • Each ballast 3 can then be assembled on the belt band 2.
  • the belt band 2 then rests on the two side portions 736 set back from the second main wall 73, and on the central portion 635 set back from the first main wall 63.
  • a single shell piece prepared in advance can be used to cover part (preferably the major part) of the metal core 4.
  • the assembly of this shell piece (conformed at will) with the associated metal core can then be produced by gluing or by deformation of said shell part.
  • the ballast 3 according to the invention makes it possible to choose the shell parts which are attached to the metal core, for example as a function of the aesthetics sought by the divers.
