Solche Rollbehänge sind regelmäßig in eine Rolltoranlage eingebaut und zum bedarfsweisen Öffnen und Verschließen einer Tiefgarageneinfahrt, einer Tür-, Tor- oder Fensteröffnung oder dergleichen Öffnung eines Bauwerks bestimmt. Solche Rollbehänge sind auf eine Wickelwelle aufwickelbar und von der Wickelwelle abrollbar ausgestaltet, welche Wickelwelle mit Hilfe eines Wellenantriebs wahlweise in die eine oder die andere Drehrichtung drehantreibbar ist. Die vorbekannten Rollbehänge sind meist aus Wellstäben hergestellt, wobei benachbarte Wellstäbe an den Wellenspitzen ihrer Wellenform mit Hilfe von schellenförmigen Verbindern gelenkig miteinander verbunden sind. Damit ein Durchgreifen durch die sich zwischen den Wellen benachbarter Wellstäbe bildenden rautenförmigen Öffnungen verhindert ist, können die Verbinder benachbarter Wellstäbe jeweils auch von einem geraden Stab durchzogen sein. Aufgrund der gelenkigen Verbindung der den Rollbehang bildenden Stäbe sind solche Rollbehänge auf die Wickelwelle aufrollbar und von der Wickelwelle wieder abrollbar ausgestaltet. Die Stäbe der auf dem Markt befindlichen Rollbehänge sind meist aus Metall hergestellt, weshalb ein solcher, aus Metallstäben hergestellter Rollbehang meist zwar eine hohe Stabilität und Einbruchsicherheit -, gleichzeitig aber auch ein hohes Gewicht aufweist.
