Das Blockademittel des Entleihungsgegenstandes muss dabei nicht zwingend ein mechanisches Schloss sein, sondern kann vorteilhafterweise auch als elektronisches Schloss ausgebildet sein. Das elektronische Schloss weist Stellmotoren auf, welche die an sich bekannte Blockade bzw. Freigabe des Pfandschlüssels bewirken. In einer hierzu ergänzenden oder alternativen Ausführungsform kann das Blockademittel auch als Wegfahrsperre oder Ähnliches ausgebildet sein, die zur Entnahme gelöst und bei Rückgabe wieder aktiviert wird. Ein besonderer Vorteil der Erfindung ist es, dass die entleihungswillige Person nichts anderes als ihr mobiles Kommunikationsmittel benötigt, um den Ausgabe- und Rückgabeprozess durchzuführen. Das mobile Kommunikationsmittel wird als Identifikationsmittel genutzt, welches erst durch die Datenverknüpfung dem jeweiligen Entleihungsgegenstand zugeordnet wird. Auf einen individuellen, stets einem bestimmten Entleihungsgegenstand zugeordneten Schlüssel, wie beispielsweise der Funkschlüssel eines bestimmten Mietwagens, kann verzichtet werden. Auch eine ansonsten erforderliche separate Identifikation des Nutzers, beispielsweise mittels seiner Kundenkarte, ist nicht mehr erforderlich. Die Erfindung ermöglicht somit die einfache Ausgabe und Rücknahme von Entleihungsgegenständen, ohne dass dieser dem Nutzer bereits im Vorfeld zugeordnet werden musste.
