Definitions
- the present invention relates, on the one hand, to a gate comprising a surrounding frame device which forms at least one holding space and one or several filler elements which extend and are held in this holding space in order to fill the holding space, wherein the frame device comprises a frame and at least one holding profile which together form the holding space, wherein the frame forms at least one frame space which, in use, is delimited by the frame at the top, at the bottom and on the sides, and is delimited by two opposite openings at the front and at the back which provide access to the frame space, and the frame comprises at least one passage which provides additional access to this frame space and through which the holding profile is fitted in order to form the holding space.
- the present invention relates to a method of producing such a gate and also relates to a construction kit for producing such a gate according to this method.
- These one or several filler elements are usually configured in such a way that they prevent or at least limit a view through the gate.
- Such gates are therefore often used with fences which prevent people from looking in and/or they are placed between buildings and/or walls to close off a passage.
- this fence may for example comprise the same type of filler elements, so that an aesthetic unit is achieved.
- one or several of the filler elements may also (partially) allow people to look in.
- These one or several filler elements may comprise, for example, planks/slats made of wood, wood composite, plastic, glass, metal etc. or panels made of wood, wood composite, plastic, glass or metal.
- a gate is usually used to be able to close an entrance and open it again.
- the gate is arranged so as to be movable and may, for example, be a slidable gate or a rotatable gate. As the gate is moved often, it has to be made sufficiently strong, so that the gate can be used for a certain period of time. It also has to be made sufficiently strong so that burglary via the gate is made more difficult.
- a strong frame device usually comprises a well-connected frame or framework, such as for example a rectangular frame comprising a top profile, two lateral profiles and a bottom profile. In order to make the frame sufficiently strong, these profiles are then firmly connected to each other, for example by means of welding.
- this frame then forms a holding space for the one or several filler elements which are fitted in order to prevent people from looking in and also to prevent them from passing through the frame.
- stiff filler elements such as planks or panels after the frame has already been formed.
- the one or several filler elements are therefore often brought together first in order to then fit the profiles of the frame around these one or several filler elements.
- the profiles are then welded together.
- a very strong frame is achieved and, moreover, no or few connecting elements, such as bolts, screws, etc. are visible, as a result of which such gates are seen as being aesthetic.
- producing such gates is relatively labour-intensive and requires a large amount of manual work.
- these gates have to be tailor-made by specialists in the field, as this is not a production method which is simple to execute.
- WO 02/14626 describes a gate comprising a frame which forms a holding space and a filler element which is fitted in this holding space.
- the frame comprises a top profile, a bottom profile and two lateral profiles.
- the bottom profile comprises a passage through which the filler element is fitted in order to fit the filler element in the holding space.
- this gate comprises a detaining element which is fittable through a lateral profile in order thus to close off the passage of the bottom profile.
- the filler element rests on this detaining element and this detaining element prevents the filler element from passing back through the passage in use.
- the drawback is that the passage is relatively large, as the filler element has to be able to fit through. This passage therefore reduces the strength of the frame. Also, a certain degree of precision is required in order to fit the filler element through the passage, as a result of which the production of this gate is laborious.
- the object of the invention is achieved by providing a gate comprising the features as described in the first paragraph of this description, in which each filler element is fitted in the frame space through a said opening and the holding profile holds the one or several filler elements in the holding space.
- the holding profile may be, for example, an extrusion profile made of metal or plastic, this holding profile then comprising, for example, a space or a groove in which the one or several filler elements are partly fitted in order to hold these one or several filler elements in the holding space.
- the holding profile may also comprise one or several other types of fastening elements to which the one or several filler elements are attached.
- the gate may, for example, comprise only one holding space, the frame device then comprising, for example, one surrounding frame or framework which only surrounds one frame space. This surrounding frame may then be, for example, one rectangular frame.
- the gate may also, for example, comprise two or several holding spaces, wherein the frame then comprises for example one rectangular frame with intermediate profiles which then divide the rectangular frame into several frame spaces.
- the frame For each frame space, preferably at least one holding profile is then provided and the frame then comprises at least one additional passage through which the respective holding profile is fittable in the said frame space.
- the frame device may also comprise one holding profile, but may also comprise several holding profiles.
- the frame For each holding profile, the frame then preferably comprises a passage which provides additional access to the frame space.
- the contours of the frame device may be formed substantially by the frame.
- the frame is preferably a completely continuous frame. This frame is then, for example, constructed from various components which have been welded together.
- the frame space is delimited at the top, at the bottom and on the sides by the frame and delimited at the front and at the back by two opposite openings which provide access to the frame space.
- the frame space is thus accessible via its front side and via its rear side via the said respective openings.
- These openings extend opposite each other and are surrounded by the frame.
- these openings extend along a plane, extend virtually parallel to each other and are configured to extend essentially vertically when the gate is in use.
- the frame is an essentially uninterrupted frame. The reason for this is that it is possible here to produce the frame in such a way that only the passage (or the passages) form an interruption in the frame, as a result of which the frame can be made very strong.
- the dimensions of this passage do not have to be all that large, because only the holding profile has to be able to fit through this passage.
- the dimensions of the passage are preferably such that a said filler element cannot fit through the passage. This is not necessary anyway, as the filler element is fitted through a said opening in the frame space.
- the frame in use, surrounds the one or several filler elements in an essentially uninterrupted manner.
- the one or several filler elements fill the holding space. These one or several filler elements will preferably fill this space essentially completely. However, the one or several filler elements may also fill the holding space only partly.
- the holding space can here be formed as one pleases, and this prior to, during or after one or several filler elements have been fitted in the frame device.
- the limited dimensions of the holding space which ensure that the one or several filler elements are securely held, so that a strong gate is produced, do not yet have to be present when the frame device is being filled with the one or several filler elements, i.e. when fitting the one or several filler elements through a said opening.
- the one or several filler elements may be fitted in the frame space in a simple manner and this while a fully formed frame is already present, but the space in which the one or several filler elements are fitted is not too restricted yet.
- a sturdy and strong frame which has the desired appearance may be provided while forming the gate, while it is still easy to fill the frame device with the one or several filler elements.
- the frame may consist of several profiles which have been welded together.
- the one or several filler elements may be fitted through a said opening in the frame space or in the space limited by the frame and the holding profile which has already been partly fitted through the passage.
- the holding profile may be fitted through the passage or further be fitted through the passage in order to form the definite holding space and thus in order to form the gate.
- this gate can thus be made sufficiently sturdy and aesthetic and this in a very simple manner.
- the fitting of the one or several filler elements may be performed by a layman.
- the gate is the gate in the assembled state.
- This gate may be sold in an assembled state, so that it is fittable immediately in order to block an entrance.
- This gate may then, for example, be rotatably connected to a post or be slidably connected to a fence in order to be able to close an entrance and open it again in this way.
- the gate may also be sold in a non-assembled state, in which case then, for example, the frame, the at least one holding profile and the one or several filler elements are sold as separate components, optionally together.
- the holding profile is preferably attached to the frame and this, for example, by means of fastening means, such as bolts and/or screws.
- the holding profile extends at least partly into the said passage.
- the holding profile In the fitted state of the gate, i.e. also during use of the gate, the holding profile thus extends partly into the passage and this holding profile is thus retained by this passage with respect to the frame.
- the holding profile extends within the contours of the frame.
- the frame then forms the outer side of the gate.
- the frame comprises a holding opening which is situated opposite the said passage, wherein the holding profile extends through this holding opening.
- the holding profile is then held with respect to the frame in two spots, namely via the passage, as the holding profile also partly extends in this passage in the fitted state of the gate, and also via this holding opening.
- This holding opening also assists with the correct positioning of the holding profile while fitting the holding profile through the passage in the frame space in order to form the gate.
- the frame is a rectangular frame comprising a top profile, two lateral profiles and a bottom profile
- the passage is situated, for example, in the bottom profile and the holding opening is, by contrast, situated in the top profile.
- the top profile may, for example, be a closed profile comprising an interior space.
- This holding opening then preferably extends opposite the part of the top profile which forms the outer rim of the frame and this holding opening preferably gives access to the interior space, so that, in the fitted state of the gate, the holding profile extends in this interior space and is thus held in this interior space.
- the top profile may also be a non-closed profile.
- the frame comprises a second passage which provides additional access to the frame space
- the gate comprises a second holding profile which is fitted through this second passage in the frame space, wherein the one or several filler elements are held in the holding space by means of both holding profiles.
- two holding profiles it is possible to improve the appearance of the gate, as it is possible to construct a symmetrical gate using two holding profiles.
- a rectangular gate comprising a rectangular frame, wherein these two holding profiles then extend at the location of two opposite sides of the frame and wherein the one or several filler elements are then each connected to both holding profiles.
- these two holding profiles may, for example, each comprise a groove for holding the one or several filler elements, wherein each filler element then partly extends in both grooves.
- the frame device comprises only two said holding profiles and the frame comprises only two said passages, so that each frame space is only accessible via the said openings and via the said passages.
- the frame is essentially uninterrupted, as only the said passages form an interruption of the frame, as a result of which the frame and thus the gate is very strong.
- a said holding profile is elongate and the holding profile is fittable in its respective passage according to a insertion direction which essentially corresponds to the length direction, and the holding profile comprises a groove which extends along this length direction and wherein this groove is accessible via this length direction and the one or several filler elements are partly accommodable in this groove along this length direction, so that the one or several filler elements partly extend in the groove and the one or several filler elements are held in the holding space by the holding profile.
- Grooves are ideal for securely holding filler elements, such as planks of panels.
- the holding profile is a C-profile. It is then possible to slide the holding profile through its passage in the direction of the filler element in order to form the gate and thus slide the groove over an end of a said filler element and/or it is possible to slide the filler element in the groove.
- C profiles are easily producible and can easily be obtained in the desired length.
- the frame is a rectangular frame or the frame comprises a rectangular component which is formed by a top profile, two lateral profiles and a bottom profile, wherein furthermore preferably a said holding profile extends against a said lateral profile and a said passage extends through the top profile or the bottom profile at the location of the said lateral profile.
- several filler elements are present which extend parallel one above the other. This is the case when the filler elements are planks which are configured to extend horizontally.
- a said passage then extends through the bottom profile.
- the bottom of the bottom profile is hardly visible, as a result of which this passage will not adversely affect the appearance of the gate when the gate is in use.
- the top profile then comprises a said holding opening which extends opposite this passage, this holding opening preferably provides access to a space or groove of this top profile, but the top of this top profile will be completely closed in order thus to give the appearance of an uninterrupted frame. This is deemed to be very aesthetic and this frame is also very strong.
- the top profile comprises a groove and/or the bottom profile comprises a groove, wherein a said groove forms part of the holding space.
- the frame then comprises at least one groove in which one or several of the one or several filler elements may extend. This groove preferably extends horizontally. If the one or several filler elements then comprise several planks which are configured to extend horizontally and one above the other, then an edge of a said plank which extends along the length direction of this plank will be able to extend in this groove.
- This groove may for example make it possible to slightly move the planks counter to the force of gravity, so that it is still possible to attach the holding profile to the frame using fastening elements after the filler elements have been fitted in the holding space, in order thus to achieve an even stronger gate.
- a said holding profile extends against the top profile or the bottom profile and a said passage extends through a said lateral profile at the location of the said top profile or bottom profile.
- one or both lateral profiles are hollow profiles. Hollow profiles are less heavy. If a holding profile is situated against a said lateral profile, this lateral profile should not be accessible to a filler element. Also, it is easy to attach a holding profile to a hollow profile by means of fastening elements, such as bolts or screws, and this without adversely affecting the appearance of the edges of the lateral profile which do not bear against the holding profile. Here, the connection between the holding profile and the lateral profile may be essentially invisible.
- one or both lateral profiles are closed profiles comprising a hollow interior space.
- the rectangular frame or the rectangular component comprises one or several intermediate profiles which extend essentially parallel to the lateral profiles, and which divide the rectangular frame or the rectangular component into two or several frame spaces.
- This specific embodiment is useful with relatively large gates, as these one or several intermediate profiles then provide additional strength.
- These one or several intermediate profiles will then preferably divide the frame of the said component into several rectangular frame spaces.
- the one or several filler elements comprise several elongate slats, wherein an end of each slat, viewed along the length direction of the slat, is held by the holding profile.
- the slats are then configured to be placed in the frame device in such a manner that the length of these slats essentially corresponds to the corresponding dimensions of the holding space, so that these slats are then securely held in the holding space.
- the object of the invention is also achieved by providing a method of producing a gate, wherein a frame device is provided which is configured to form at least one holding space and wherein one or several filler elements are provided in order to fill this holding space, wherein, in order to provide the frame device, a frame and at least one holding profile are provided, wherein this frame surrounds at least one frame space which is delimited at the top, at the bottom and on the sides by the frame and is delimited at the front and back by two opposite openings which provide access to the frame space and wherein the frame comprises at least one passage which provides additional access to the frame space and through which the holding profile is fittable in the frame space in order to form the holding space, wherein, in order to form the gate, each filler element is introduced into the frame space through a said opening and the holding profile is fitted in the frame space through the passage.
- the holding profile may be, for example, an extrusion profile made of metal or plastic, wherein this holding profile then comprises, for example, a groove or space in which the one or several filler elements are partly fittable in order to hold these one or several filler elements in the holding space.
- the holding profile may also comprise one or several other types of fastening elements to which the one or several filler elements are attachable. It is for example possible to form a gate comprising only one holding space which is filled with one or several filler elements. In that case, a frame or a framework is provided which only surrounds one frame space. This surrounding frame may then be, for example, one rectangular frame.
- the frame may then comprise, for example, one rectangular frame having intermediate profiles which divide the rectangular frame into several frame spaces.
- at least one holding profile and at least one passage are provided for each frame space through which the holding profile is fittable in the said frame space.
- the frame device may comprise one holding profile, but may also comprise several holding profiles.
- the frame may then comprise a passage for each holding profile.
- this method By using this method to form the gate, anyone can simply construct this gate and this by forming the holding space, during and/or after filling the frame space with the one or several filler elements by fitting the one or several filler elements through a said opening, by fitting the holding profile through the passage in the frame space, until the holding profile assumes its desired position in the frame space and holds the one or several filler elements in the holding space.
- the one or several filler elements can be fitted through a said opening in a simple manner.
- the frame may consist of several profiles which have been welded together.
- the one or several filler elements can be fitted through a said opening in the frame space and this while the holding profile has not yet or only partly been fitted in the frame space through the passage. After all filler elements have been fitted, the holding profile can then be fitted in its entirety through or be fitted further through the passage of the frame.
- the holding profile will then gradually, and this during the formation of the gate, start to securely hold the one or several filler elements, so that a strong gate is obtained.
- the holding profile will then not only hold the one or several filler elements in the holding space, but also help with positioning in the holding space.
- this gate can thus be made sufficiently sturdy and aesthetic and this while the production thereof is very simple.
- different types of holding profiles for example holding profiles comprising grooves in other dimensions, so that the dimensions of the different types of filler elements may differ as well.
- the one or several filler elements are fitted before or during the formation of the holding space by fitting the holding profile in the frame space.
- the holding space only assumes its final shape when all one or several filler elements have been fitted in order to form the gate. This will ensure that the dimensions of the holding space will not hinder the fitting of the one or several filler elements through a said opening.
- the gate Different options for forming the gate are possible. Thus, it is possible to first fit and position all one or several filler elements in the frame space and only then fit the holding profile through the passage in order to form the holding space.
- This option is mainly suitable if only one filler element is fitted in the frame space.
- This filler element may then be, for example, a panel, such as a wooden, metal or glass panel.
- the holding profile is then for example an elongate profile with a groove which extends along the length direction, wherein this groove is then pushed over an edge of the panel, so that the edge of the panel is held by the holding profile.
- Another option is to already partly fit the holding profile through the passage in the frame space, but to not yet allow the holding profile to assume its final position with respect to the frame.
- the passage may be situated, for example, in the bottom profile and the holding profile may extend against the top profile or partly in the top profile in its final position.
- the holding profile will be fitted through the passage in such a manner that the holding profile is situated at a distance from the top profile.
- the one or several filler elements are fitted in the frame space and some of the one or several filler elements will be positioned with respect to the holding profile.
- the holding profile is then brought to its final position with respect to the frame.
- the one or several filler elements comprise several planks and the holding profile is an elongate profile with a groove which extends along the length direction.
- the holding profile will preferably first be fitted through the passage along its length direction in such a manner that the distance to the top profile corresponds essentially to or is slightly larger than the width of the plank, so that a filler element can still easily be fitted through a said opening in the frame space. Thereafter, the planks are pushed into the said groove and a plank is also fitted between the plank which was fitted last and the top profile. Subsequently, the holding profile is pushed further in the direction of the top profile. Still another option is for the fitting of the one or several filler elements and the fitting of the holding profile through the passage to take place simultaneously and/or alternately, i.e. a filler element is fitted through a said opening and then the holding profile is moved slightly through the passage and then another filler element is fitted through a said opening, etc.
- the filler elements are successively held by the holding profile during the formation of the holding space.
- the filler elements are fitted successively and/or the holding profile is fitted through the passage while fitting one or several filler elements or after all filler elements have already been fitted. In this way, the filler elements are securely held during the formation of the gate, as a result of which the formation of the gate can proceed quickly and simply.
- the frame comprises a holding opening which extends opposite the passage, wherein, during the fitting of the holding profile in the frame space to form the holding space, this holding profile is also fitted through this holding opening.
- the holding profile is then held securely by the passage and also by this holding opening, as a result of which the holding profile will be able to always hold the filler elements in the holding space in a satisfactory manner.
- the gate is a gate with a said holding profile which is elongate is and wherein the holding profile is fittable in its respective passage along an insertion direction which corresponds essentially to this length direction, and the holding profile comprises a groove which extends along this length direction and wherein this groove is accessible via this length direction, the one or several filler elements are fitted in the said groove of the holding profile along the length direction of the groove. This may be achieved, for example, by sliding the one or several filler elements in this groove and/or by sliding the groove with respect to the one or several filler elements.
- the holding profile is attached to the frame.
- This may be effected, for example, by means of one or several fastening means, such as bolts and/or screws.
- the gate is a gate with a frame comprising a top profile, a bottom profile and two lateral profiles, wherein the top profile comprises a groove which forms part of the holding space, wherein a said holding profile bears against a said lateral profile and wherein the one or several filler elements comprise several elongate slats, wherein an end of each slat, viewed along the length direction of the slat, is held by the holding profile, the top slat is pushed into the said groove in order to attach the holding profile to the frame.
- the top slat is pushed into the said groove in order to attach the holding profile to the frame.
- the gate is a gate as described above.
- the present invention also relates to a construction kit for producing a gate as described above and this according to a method as described above, comprising the said frame, the at least one holding profile, and the one or several filler elements.
- this construction kit may furthermore also comprise tools and/or fastening means.

- the frame (4) consists of the top profile (9), the lateral profiles (10a, 10b) and the bottom profile (11), these profiles (9, 10a, 10b, 11) having already been welded together and the frame (4) thus already having been formed.
- the holding profiles (5) are partly fitted through their respective passages (6). This is visible in Fig. 3 .
- the distance up to which the holding profiles (5) are fitted inside the frame space is can be chosen freely, as long as the planks (3) can still be fitted easily in the frame space through a said opening.
- planks (3) are fitted in the frame space through a said opening and either the ends of the planks (3), viewed along the length direction of these planks (3), are slid into the groove (8) of the respective holding profile (5) or the holding profiles (5) are pushed over the respective ends of said planks (3). It is possible to fit all planks (3) in the same opening or it is also possible to use both openings to fit the planks (3) in the frame space. Finally, the last plank (3) is fitted between the top profile (9) and the adjoining plank (3) which has already been fitted in the frame space and the holding profiles (5) are pushed further so that they extend through their respective holding opening (7).
- planks (3) may still be moved slightly towards the top profile (9), so that the top plank (3) extends partly in the groove (13) of the top profile (9) and some space is present between two adjacent planks (3). It is then possible to reach the holding profiles (5) between these adjacent planks (3) in order to attach the holding profiles (5) to the respective lateral profiles (10a, 10b) and this, for example, by means of fastening means.
- the gate (1) according to the second embodiment comprises two gate sections.
- Each gate section comprises a surrounding frame device (2) which delimits two holding spaces and several elongate planks (3) which extend in these holding spaces, in order to fill this frame device (2).
- the construction of these gate sections is similar to that of the gate (1) according to the first embodiment, except that the frame (4) of each gate section additionally comprises one intermediate profile (12) which divides the frame (4) into two frame spaces.
- the bottom profile (11) is provided with four passages (6), two of which extend at the location of a respective lateral profile (10a, 10b) and two of which extend on either side of the intermediate profile (12).
- each gate section is similar to that of the gate (1) according to the first embodiment, except that two frame spaces have to be filled in this case.
- the gate (1) according to the third embodiment, as (partly) illustrated in the Figs. 9 , 11 and 12 , comprises a surrounding frame device (2) which delimits two holding spaces and several elongate planks (3) which extend in these holding spaces in order to fill this frame device (2).
- this gate (1) is similar to that of the gate (1) according to the first embodiment, except that the frame (4) of the gate (1) according to the third embodiment is in the shape of a trapezium comprising a top profile (9), a bottom profile (11), two upright lateral profiles (10a, 10b), an oblique outer profile (16) and one intermediate profile (12) which connects the top profile (9) and the bottom profile (11) to each other and wherein the intermediate profiles (12) extend at right angles to the top profile (9) and the bottom profile (11).
- the left-hand lateral profile (10a) extends between the oblique outer profile (16) and the intermediate profile (12).
- the second frame space and the third frame space together with in each case two holding profiles (5) form a holding space.
- the first frame space is not filled.
- the bottom profile (11) comprises 4 passages (6), a first to the right of the left-hand lateral profile (10a), a second to the left of the intermediate profile (12), a third to the right of the intermediate profile (12) and the fourth to the left of the right-hand lateral profile (10b).
- a first holding space is the space which extends between the top profile (9), the said first and the second holding profile (5) and the bottom profile (11)
- the second holding space is the space which extends between the top profile (9), the third and the fourth holding profile (5) and the bottom profile (11).
- the production of this gate (1) proceeds in a similar way to that of the gate (1) according to the first embodiment, except that two frame spaces have to be filled.
- Fig. 12 clearly shows that the holding profiles (5) are C profiles.
- Fig. 13 shows a cross section of an alternative embodiment of a C profile which may serve as a holding profile (5).
- This holding profile (5) is usable, for example, with a gate according to the invention which, instead of several slats (3) as filler elements (3) for filling up the holding space, only comprises one plate as a filler element for filling up the holding space.
