Definitions

  • the present invention relates in general to a throw-in lock for application on a garbage container. Particularly, it relates to a throw-in lock with a closeable throw-in opening, which in opened condition does not offer direct access to the interior of container onto which the throw-in lock is applied, wherein the throw-in lock furthermore comprises weighing means for weighing a garbage amount received in the throw-in lock.
  • Throw-in locks for application for garbage containers are commonly known.
  • such lock comprises a means for closing a throw-in opening, wherein the lock is arranged, in the case of an opened throw-in opening, to keep a receiving space for garbage, arranged behind the throw-in opening, separated from an interior of the container onto which the lock is applied.
  • garbage received in the receiving space is transferred to a storage volume located in the interior.
  • the throw-in opening is opened again, the receiving space is empty, and only the volume of the receiving space is available for a user for placing garbage therein.
  • a known example of a throw-in lock of the above-described type comprises a unit of two cylindrical drums arranged within each other.
  • An inner drum of the two drums defines a receiving space for garbage to be thrown in, and is open at one end for receiving therethrough garbage into the receiving space.
  • the inner drum is arranged for rotation, in order to lie with the open side either at a throw-in opening of the lock, or at a transfer opening for transferring the garbage to a storage space.
  • An outer drum of the two drums is also arranged for rotation with respect to the housing, in order to leave the throw-in opening free when the inner drum lies with its open side at the throw-in opening, and in order to make the throw-in opening closeable by rotation of the outer drum.
  • the two drums are coupled to rotate in dependency of each other, so that in the case of rotation of the outer drum for locking the throw-in opening, the inner drum rotates as well, in order to have its open side displaced from the throw-in opening to the transfer opening, in order to transfer an amount of garbage that has been received in the receiving space through the open side in the case of an opened throw-in opening, towards the storage space from the receiving space through the same open side.
  • a throw-in lock that comprises weighing means for weighing an amount of garbage thrown in is known from NL2008754 .
  • This lock comprises a substantially rectangular housing, which can be closed by means of a flat valve.
  • a container which is open to the top and has upright walls is arranged within the housing.
  • a bottom of the container is formed by two parts that can hinge downwards, which in the case of an opened valve close the inner side of the container from a storage space located below the container.
  • the container is provided with a weighing unit for weighing the container, in order to be able to determine the weight of garbage placed in the container on the basis of a measured weight.
  • the garbage weight determined can be registered, and can be coupled to data from individual users read by a reading device.
  • a disadvantage of the throw-in lock from NL2008754 is that hinging the two bottom parts downwards within the housing of the throw-in lock requires space in vertical direction. This makes that the known throw-in lock is relatively high in size. This is disadvantageous, because a low throw-in lock is often desirable in conjunction with the image of the street or for instance with a view to wheelchair users. A recessed placement of the known lock is perhaps possible, but then the weighing system goes at the cost of useable volume of the container positioned below.
  • a further disadvantage is that the known throw-in lock is not very robust in comparison with other throw-in locks.
  • EP-0893368 describes a throw-in lock with two concentrical rotating cylinders.
  • the inner cylinder can be indicated as receiving drum with a passage opening.
  • the outer cylinder can be indicated as valve.
  • a rotation axis of the receiving drum rests on a weighing cell.
  • the valve In a throw-in condition, the valve is rotated away from the throw-in opening of the lock, and the receiving drum is positioned with its passage opening directed upwards, communicating with the throw-in opening of the lock.
  • a user can now place garbage into the receiving drum; then, the user operates the outer cylinder to align the valve with the throw-in opening of the lock in order to close this. In this condition, the receiving drum with the garbage placed therein is weighed.
  • the garbage remains lying in the receiving drum, until a next user wants to use the lock and opens the valve.
  • the next user opens the valve, and the rotating valve takes along the receiving drum to rotate towards a position in which the passage opening is directed downwards and the garbage falls out of the receiving drum. Then, the receiving drum rotates back again towards the position with the passage opening directed upwards, so that the throw-in condition is reached again.
  • a disadvantage of this known device is that the outer cylinder and the inner cylinder of the lock are coupled to each other, and that the rotation axle of the inner cylinder is laid on a weighing cell. In the case of rotation of the inner cylinder, this rubs over the upper surface of the weighing cell. Because of this, and by the coupling between the two cylinders, it is difficult to calibrate the weighing, having the consequence that the accuracy of the weight measurement reduces.
  • An objective of the present invention is to provide an improved throw-in lock, which can be implemented relatively compact, and which furthermore can be implemented relatively robust.
  • the invention provides a device according to claim 1.
  • the measuring accuracy is increased by having the inner cylinder and outer cylinder rotate completely independently from each other. Then it is not possible that one can disturb the measurement by manipulating the valve.
  • the measuring accuracy is increased by incorporating the rotation axle of the inner cylinder in a bearing, which bearing is attached to the measuring cell.
  • the complete decoupling between inner cylinder and outer cylinder is possible because the device is provided with a motor that makes the inner cylinder rotate, in response to a signal received from a sensor indicating that the valve is closed.
  • the inner cylinder is weighed and emptied directly after closing the valve, and the device is immediately free for use for a next user who opens the valve.
  • a relatively robust throw-in lock with an inner drum and outer drum wherein the laying of the two drums and the motorised drive of one drum in dependency of a detected position or rotation of the other drum makes it possible to use the first-mentioned drum as a weighing drum for establishing the weight of the amount of garbage received in the lock.
  • This possibility is implemented by the presence of a weighing device.
  • the throw-in lock can be implemented relatively compact, because for emptying the receiving space, by a rotation of the inner drum, no extra space is required in the height of the throw-in lock.
  • a throw-in lock 100 comprises a housing 30, which in practice will often have the shape of a pillar, and a drum unit 200 arranged in this housing 30.
  • the housing 30 For receiving an amount of garbage in the throw-in lock 100, the housing 30 has a throw-in opening 31 accessible from the outside.
  • the housing 30 For transferring a received amount of garbage from the throw-in lock 100 to a storage space, the housing 30 further has a transfer opening 32 which in the example shown lies below the drum unit 200.
  • the drum unit 200 comprises two drums 10, 20 arranged rotatably around a common axis, of which one drum 10 is arranged within the other drum 20.
  • the axle lies horizontally, wherein the drums 10, 20 in the example shown each have a round cross section in a plane perpendicular to the axis.
  • the inner drum 10 has an open side 11, that offers access to a receiving space 13 formed in the interior of the inner drum 10 for receiving an amount of garbage.
  • the receiving space 13 is delineated by a shell-shaped wall 12, which extends along and around the common axis.
  • the outer drum 20 has an open side 21.
  • the outer drum 20 has a shell-shaped wall 22, that again extends along and around the common axis.
  • the inner drum 10 is rotatable with respect to the housing 30 between a first position, in which the inner drum 10 lies with its open side 11 at the throw-in opening 31, and a second position, in which the inner drum with its open side 11 lies at the transfer opening 32.
  • the outer drum 20 is rotatable with respect to the housing 30 between a first, closed position, in which the outer drum 20 with its shell-shaped wall 22 closes the throw-in opening 31, and a second, open position, in which the outer drum 20 with its open side 21 lies at the throw-in opening 31 and the outer drum 20 thus keeps the throw-in opening 31 free.
  • the first position of the inner drum 10 serves as a receiving position, wherein garbage can be received in the receiving space 13 through the throw-in opening 31.
  • the outer drum 20 can be in the open position in the case of the first position of the inner drum 10 so that the shell-shaped wall 22 of the outer drum 20 leaves the throw-in opening 31 free.
  • the second position of the inner drum 20 serves as a transfer position, wherein an amount of garbage received in the receiving space 13 is thrown out through the transfer opening 32 to a storage space of the container onto which the throw-in lock is applied.
  • the open side 21 of the outer drum 20 is placed such that this at least in the closed position of the outer drum 20 overlaps with the open side 11 of the inner drum 10 in the transfer position, as well as with the transfer opening 32.
  • the outer drum 20 is rotatable from the closed position with respect to the housing 30 to the open position, wherein the inner drum 10 maintains the receiving position.
  • an amount of garbage 300 can subsequently be introduced into the receiving space 13 through the throw-in opening 31.
  • the outer drum 20 is rotatable from the open position back again with respect to the housing 30 to the closed position, wherein the inner drum 10 still maintains the receiving position.
  • the inner drum 10 is rotatable from the receiving position with respect to the housing 30 to the transfer position, wherein the outer drum 20 maintains the closed position.
  • the receiving space 13 is emptied by throwing out a received amount of garbage to the transfer opening 32.
  • the inner drum 10 is again rotatable with respect to the housing 30 from the transfer position back to the receiving position, wherein the outer drum 20 still maintains the closed position.
  • the weight of the received amount of garbage 300 is established on the basis of the weight determined. Weighing can be initiated after it has been detected that the outer drum 20 has reached the closed position from the open position.
  • the rotation of the outer drum 20 independently from the inner drum 10 and the rotation of the inner drum 10 independently from the outer drum 20 are made possible by a support 50 which arranges each of the inner drum 10 and the outer drum 20 rotatably with respect to the housing 30.
  • a support 50 which arranges each of the inner drum 10 and the outer drum 20 rotatably with respect to the housing 30.
  • two of such supports 50 are present, which each are arranged at another end of the set of drums 10, 20.
  • each drum support 50 comprises two bearings 51, 52 upon which always a drum axle 14, 24 attached to one of the two drums 10, 20 is laid.
  • each drum axle 14, 24 is fixed to an end wall 15, 25 of the drum 10, 20 concerned, which lies transverse to the common rotation axis.
  • Each drum axle 14, 24 extends here along the common rotation axis.
  • drum axles 24 of the outer drum 20 are hollow, and the drum axles 14 of the inner drum 10 extend through the hollow interior of the drum axles 24 of the outer drum 10.
  • a first bearing 51 located closer to the set of drums 10, 20 always supports a drum axle 24 of the outer drum 20, and a second bearing 52 located further away from the set of drums 10, 20 always supports a drum axle 14 of the inner drum 10.
  • each of the bearings 51, 52 can be a rotation bearing embracing the corresponding axle 24, 14, such as a ball bearing.
  • the first bearing 51 is mounted on a bracket 53 that is shaped to position the first bearing 51 at a certain altitude above a certain support face in a housing 30.
  • the drum unit 200 can be fixed in the housing 30 by means of the bracket 53.
  • the second bearing 52 is always mounted on a weighing cell 54, which supports the second bearing 52 at a certain altitude, so that the second bearing 52 is aligned with the first bearing 51.
  • the weighing cell 54 itself is mounted on said bracket 53, in an arrangement parallel to a part of the bracket 53 supporting the first bearing 53.
  • both the bracket 53 and the weighing cell 54 are formed and arranged to at least for a large part lay in an area that extends parallel to the drum axles 14, 24.
  • the supporting units 50 each are relatively compact, and it is possible to fit a drum unit 200 as shown into the housing 30 of existing throw-in locks (or pillars), as a replacement of a drum unit with coupled drums, or in order to apply the drum unit 200 in a throw-in lock to be manufactured new, wherein a housing 30 having an existing shape is used.
  • the bracket 53 and the weighing cell 54 are more particularly arranged below the drum axles 14, 24, wherein at least a part of the bracket 53 supporting the first bearing 51 and the weighing cell 54 each define a relatively narrow support face for the first bearing 51 and the second bearing 52 respectively, which extends horizontally in a direction perpendicular to the drum axles 14, 24.
  • an electro motor 70 for driving the inner drum 10 is, through a circulation belt 71, connected to a drive wheel 72 that is fixed to a part of the drum axle 14 of the inner drum 10 which projects from the drum axle 24 of the outer drum 20 beyond the second bearing 52.
  • the electro motor 70 is mounted on the bracket 53, just like the weighing cell 54. In that case, the electro motor 70 does lay adjacent to rather than below the drum axles 14, 24, but, for the purpose of a compact shape of the drum unit 200, the electro motor 70 largely still lays in an area which extends parallel to the drum axles 14, 24.
  • a sensor 60 for observing a position or rotation of the outer drum 20 is shown only schematically, and can be implemented in any desired way.
  • the drum unit 200 may further comprise a pass reader, a means for locking and unlocking the outer drum 20, and a means for blocking and unblocking the weighing cells 54.

  • Use of a throw-in pillar according to the invention preferably comprises the following steps:
  • a part 53 with which a drum unit 200 is mounted in a housing 30, and onto which part 53 also a weighing cell 54 and/or motor 70 may be mounted does not necessarily have to have the shape of a bracket.
  • a part is, just like the bracket shown, arranged to be fixed in known housings.
  • a non-weighing drum unit can relatively easily be replaced by a weighing one.
  • bracket 53 In the case of the bracket 53 shown, this has been achieved in that it has a base plate 53' for supporting therewith on a support face, with openings therein of which the mutual location corresponds to the mutual location of mounting places in a known housing.
  • the dimensions of the drums 10, 20 are further preferably identical to those of the drums from a known, non-weighing drum unit.
  • a control member for controlling the motor for rotation of the inner drum on the basis of a sensor signal indicating the position of the outer drum also controls blocking means for locking the outer drum in its closed position.
  • the motor drive is implemented self-braking.
  • the motor drive to that end comprises a worm/worm wheel transmission.
  • the present invention also relates to an embodiment having these features in common. Even if certain features have been described in combination with each other, the present invention also relates to an embodiment in which one or more of these features are omitted. Features which are not explicitly described as being essential may also be omitted. Possible preference numerals used in a claim should not be explained as limiting to the scope of that claim.
