Furthermore, easels of various sizes are needed for different sized canvasses. Many artists also have the need to work on a painting over time, while not having to display their work before it is finalized. Hence, easels are often covered with a piece of cloth, which is unpractical, and may risk smearing of the paint.

Description
- The present invention relates to studios for painters.
- While there are many easels that allow some degree of adjusting the position of a canvas that they hold, none of them provides a means that allow for the painter to paint on all the four edges of the canvas while mounted on thereon. Furthermore, easels of various sizes are needed for different sized canvasses. Many artists also have the need to work on a painting over time, while not having to display their work before it is finalized. Hence, easels are often covered with a piece of cloth, which is unpractical, and may risk smearing of the paint.
- It is an object of the present invention to provide studio for painters that solve the above-mentioned problems.
- The inventor of the present invention has provided a compact studio with an easel like structure that can hold a variety of sizes of canvases, and in a position, that enables the painter to paint on all the four edges of the canvas while mounted on therein.
- A first aspect of the present invention relates to a studio for painters comprising:
- a) an enclosure comprising:
- a back-wall comprising a guide track;
- two side walls; and
- a front wall configured as one or more gate members; and
- b) a pair of canvas fastening units comprising:
- a guide pin adapted for slidable engagement with the guide track;
- a first fastening means adapted for releasable fastening to the guide tracks and/or to a back-wall panel; and
- a second fastening means adapted for releasable fastening to the back inner edge of a canvas frame.
- In one or more embodiments, the back-wall further comprises a lifting unit comprising a pair of wheels adapted to move up and down in a vertical direction in relation to the bottom part of the back-wall. This configuration allows for the studio to be easily moved from one location to another. To provide a stable studio that can resist the forces that the painter directs thereon while painting, it is important that the wheels can be moved up in a vertical direction in relation to the bottom part of the back-wall, such that the bottom part of the back-wall can rest on the ground. When needing to move the studio, the wheels can be moved down in a vertical direction in relation to the bottom part of the back-wall, such that the bottom part of the back-wall is raised from the ground.
- In one or more embodiments, the pair of wheels are operatively connected to a lever arm.
- In one or more embodiments, a lifting unit as described above is positioned on both sides of the back-wall. This configuration alleviates the forces needed to lift the back-wall from the ground, as it is done in two steps - one side at the time.
- In one or more embodiments, the second fastening means comprises a spiked flange to provide a better grip to the back inner edge of a canvas frame.
- In one or more embodiments, the second fastening means comprises two spiked flanges positioned in line with each other, and with a gap of at least 2 cm in width in-between. This configuration allows the same fastening means to be used for both relatively small canvases, as well as relatively large canvases. The gap must be at least 2 cm, such as within the range of 2-10 cm, to allow for a canvas frame part to fit in-between the two spiked flanges.
- In one or more embodiments, the second fastening means comprises two flanges positioned in line with each other, and with a gap of at least 2 cm in width in-between.
- In one or more embodiments, the one or more gate members comprises a wheel adapted for rollaby engaging with the ground. This configuration allows for an easier closing and opening of the gate member (door).
- In one or more embodiments, the wheel is adapted to move up and down in a vertical direction in relation to the bottom part of the gate member. This configuration allows for adjustment of the wheel relative to the ground surface.
- In one or more embodiments, the wheel is adapted for height adjustment relative to the ground surface.
- As used in the specification and the appended claims, the singular forms "a", "an", and "the" include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Ranges may be expressed herein as from "about" or "approximately" one particular value and/or to "about" or "approximately" another particular value. When such a range is expressed, another embodiment includes from the one particular value and/or to the other particular value. Similarly, when values are expressed as approximations, by use of the antecedent "about", it will be understood that the particular value forms another embodiment.
- It should be noted that embodiments and features described in the context of one of the aspects of the present invention also apply to the other aspects of the invention.

Figure 2 shows a front view of a studio in accordance with various embodiments of the invention; -
Figure 3 shows a front view of a studio in accordance with various embodiments of the invention, and with a canvas mounted therein; -
Figure 4 shows an isometric view of a canvas fastening unit in accordance with various embodiments of the invention; -
Figure 5 shows a front side view and a back-side view of a canvas; and -
Figure 6 shows a back-side view of a studio in accordance with various embodiments of the invention. -
Figure 1 shows the general aspect of the invention in isometric view. Astudio 100 is shown comprising an enclosure with a pair ofcanvas fastening units 300 mounted therein. - The enclosure comprises a back-
wall 210 comprising aguide track 212; twoside walls 220; and afront wall 230 configured as a pair of gate members. Thecanvas fastening units 300 comprises a guide unit 310 (Figure 6 ) adapted for slidable engagement with theguide track 212; a first fastening means 320 adapted for releasable fastening to theguide track 212; and a second fastening means 330 adapted for releasable fastening to the back inner edge 14 (Figure 5 ) of acanvas frame 12. - When the pair of
canvas fastening units 300 are moved in opposite directions along theguide track 212 during a mounting operation of acanvas 10, the second fastening means 330 on each of thecanvas fastening units 300 will engage with opposing backinner edges Figure 5 ). - In
Figure 4 , acanvas fastening unit 300 is shown with a second fastening means 330 comprising a two spikedflanges 332 positioned in line with each other, and with agap 334 in-between. - In order to provide a studio that is mobile, but stabile when the painter is painting on a mounted canvas, the inventors have provided the studio with a
lifting unit 214 attached to the back-wall 210 (Figures 1 +6). Thelifting unit 214 comprises a pair ofwheels 216 adapted to move up and down in a vertical direction in relation to the bottom part of the back-wall 210. Thereby, thewheels 216 may be moved below the bottom part of the back-wall 210 when the studio is closed (i.e. the gate members of thefront wall 230 are in a closed position, covering a mounted canvas); thereby lifting the bottom part of the back-wall 210 above the ground. When the studio is moved to a new location, thewheels 216 are moved above the bottom part of the back-wall 210, such that the bottom part of the back-wall 210 returns to a resting position on the ground; thereby providing a stabile studio when a painter is working on a canvas. Theside walls 220 and the gate members of thefront wall 230 all assist in the stabilization of the studio, when the studio is open (i.e. the gate members of thefront wall 230 are in an open position). Alifting unit 214 is shown positioned on both sides of the back-wall 210, and the pair ofwheels 216 are operatively connected to alever arm 218. -
