Definitions
- the present invention relates to a manual cutting tool, that is to say a cutting tool for use and manipulation directly by a user. It may for example be an electrician's pliers.
- a cutting tool 10 of the electricians' pliers type such as that represented in FIGS. 1 and 2, comprises two branches 12 hinged about an axis X.
- Each branch 12 comprises a first portion 14 for gripping the tool by a user and a second cutting portion 16, the portions 14, 16 being separated from each other by the X axis.
- the cutting portions 16 have cutting edges 18 which define a section A (FIG. 2) through which a cutting element 20 passes, which is, for example, the free end of an electrical cable clamp, as shown in Figure 3.
- the section A is flat and extends substantially perpendicular to the X axis ( Figure 2).
- This tool is configured so that an articulation of the branches 12 around the X axis causes a rimpedement of the cutting edges 18 and a section of the element 20, as shown in FIG. 4.
- the cut portion and removed from the element 20 is subjected to a relatively large cutting force (force F) which causes a projection of this part, especially when this part is small.
- This projection can lead to risks for the user (projection in the eyes) but can also lead to pollution of the environment or a finished product.
- the present invention provides an improvement to the aforementioned technology, which is simple, effective and economical, and protects in particular the user of the tool.
- the invention proposes for this purpose a manual cutting tool, comprising two branches articulated about an axis, each branch comprising a first gripping portion of the tool by a user and a second cutting portion, said first and second portions. being separated from each other by said axis, the second portions of the branches having cutting edges which define a passage section of an element to be cut, the tool being configured so that an articulation of the branches around of said axis causes a reconciliation of the cutting edges of the branches and a section of said element, characterized in that it further comprises a user protection member, which is made of a transparent material, said member extending substantially parallel to said passage section and covering it integrally, and being flexible in a plane substantially perpendicular to said passage section.
- a transparent material is understood to mean a material through which a user can see the element to be cut. Although it covers the aforementioned section, the protective member does not interfere with the visibility of the user when cutting the element.
- the term flexible means the ability of the member to deform elastically over a given amplitude. This flexibility in the plane perpendicular to the passage section allows the member not to interfere with the cutting of the element when the part to be removed from this element is long or bulky. Indeed, this part to be cut and removed is intended to bear on the member and cause its bending so that the user can correctly position the tool for cutting.
- the cutting tool according to the invention may comprise one or more of the following features, taken separately from each other or in combination with each other:
- the member has a flat shape
- the member is formed in one piece, preferably by a plate for example of a plastic material such as a polycarbonate,
- the member comprises a first part extending parallel to said passage section, at a distance from the latter, and covering this passage section, and a second attachment part to one of said branches, the first part a peripheral contour in the shape of an ogive,
- the second part is configured to be removably attached to one of said branches
- said second part comprises an engagement tab, which preferably has an elongated shape
- said tab comprises two rectilinear zones inclined with respect to each other,
- the present invention also relates to a protection member of a user for a cutting tool as described above, characterized in that it is formed of a plate of transparent material, and in that it comprises a first part having a peripheral contour in the form of a warhead, and a second part comprising a detachable fixing lug to one of the branches of the tool by insertion of said tab into a housing of this branch of the tool, the body being able to be deformed by bending in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of said plate.
- the present invention also relates to a method of equipping a manual cutting tool with a protection member as described above, the cutting tool comprising two branches hinged about an axis, each branch comprising a first portion. gripping of the tool by a user and a second cutting portion, said first and second portions being separated from each other by said axis, the second portions of the branches having cutting edges which define a passage section of an element to be cut, the tool being configured so that an articulation of the branches about said axis causes a rimpedement of the cutting edges of the branches and a section of said element, characterized in that it comprises :
- FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view of a cutting tool, here a piece of electrician, according to the prior art
- FIG. 2 is another partial schematic perspective view of the tool of FIG. 1,
- FIGS. 3 and 4 are diagrammatic views of the portions and cutting edges of the tool of FIG. 1,
- FIG. 4 is a partial schematic perspective view of a cutting tool according to the invention.
- FIG. 5 is another partial schematic perspective view of the tool of FIG. 4, in use,
- FIG. 6 is a schematic perspective view of the protection member of the tool of FIG. 4, and
- FIGS. 7 and 8 are schematic views of the protective member of Figure 4, seen from the front and side.
- Figures 5 to 9 show an embodiment of the invention, Figures 5 and 6 showing a cutting tool 1 10 having an organ 130 and FIGS. 7 to 9 showing this protection member 130.
- the cutting tool 1 10 is a pliers of electrician in the example shown. It comprises two branches 1 12 hinged about an axis X. Each leg 1 12 comprises a first portion 1 14 for gripping the tool by a user and a second portion of section 1 16, the portions 1 14, 1 16 being separated from each other by the X axis.
- the cutting portions 1 16 have cutting edges 1 18 which define a passage section A of an element 120 to be cut, which is for example the free end of an electrical cable clamp, as shown in FIG. 6.
- the section A is flat and extends substantially perpendicular to the axis X.
- each portion 1 16 is located at the intersection of two surfaces 1 18a, 1 18b inclined at an angle of between 20 and 70 ° (and for example 30 and 60 ° ), a surface 18a of which is substantially parallel to section A (FIG. 5).
- the tool 1 10 is configured so that an articulation of the branches 1 12 about the X axis causes a rimpedement of the cutting edges 1 18 and a section of the element 120, as shown in FIG. 6.
- the tool 1 10 is equipped with the protection member 130 to protect the user and in particular to prevent the cut portion of the element 120 from being projected towards the user, in particular in his eyes.
- the surfaces 1 18b of the portions 1 16, situated on the side opposite the section A, are inclined with respect to each other and are intended to be covered by the member 130, in particular when the cutting edges 1 18 are in the neighborhood of each other.
- the protection member 130 is made of a transparent material. It may be a plastic material such as a polycarbonate, for example Lexan®.
- the member 130 extends substantially parallel to the passage section A and covers at least in part.
- the member 130 is flexible in a plane P substantially perpendicular to the section of passage A (arrow G). Its flexibility is for example such that an end of the member 130 can be flexed by a few millimeters by elastic deformation.
- each leg 1 12 comprises a rigid central body 1 12a, here metallic, and a sheath 1 12b which covers and surrounds the body 1 12a and which is made of an elastic material.
- the sheath 1 12b can be mounted on the body 1 12a after manufacture, for example by force engagement.
- the sheath 1 12b can be mounted and fixed on the body 1 12a by gluing.
- the sheath 1 12b can also be manufactured in situ, for example by overmolding.
- the sheath 1 12b extends over the entire length of the portion 1 14 of each branch, and stops near the portion 1 16 of this branch. Each portion 1 16 is thus not covered by the sheath 1 12b. Each portion 1 16 is thus formed by a portion of the body 1 12a.
- the material of the sheath 1 12b allows elastic deformations of the latter, in particular by spacing the sheath of the body 1 12a.
- the end of the sheath 1 12b, located near the X axis of each branch, can be spaced by elastic deformation so as to create a housing 132 for receiving a portion of the member 130.
- the protective member 130 has a flat shape. It is formed in one piece, preferably by a plate, which is transparent plastic material as explained above.
- the plate here has a thickness e less than or equal to 3 mm and for example of the order of 1 mm. It has a generally elongated shape and has an overall length L1 of between 30 and 50mm and a maximum width L2 of between 10 and 20mm.
- the plate essentially comprises two parts 134, 136, a first part 134 extending parallel to the passage section A, at a distance from the latter, and covering this section, and a second part 136 of attachment to one of the branches 1 12.
- the first portion 134 has a peripheral contour in the form of a warhead. It comprises a free tip end and an opposite end which is connected to the second portion 136.
- This second portion 136 is configured to be removably attached to the leg 1 12.
- the second portion 136 includes an engagement tab, which here has an elongate shape.
- This tab comprises two rectilinear zones 136a, 136b inclined with respect to each other, here an angle ⁇ of about 160 °.
- a first rectilinear zone 136a extends from the aforesaid end of the first portion 134 away from the pointed end of the first portion, in a direction substantially parallel to an axis of elongation of the first portion 134.
- first rectilinear zone 136a extends between the first portion 134 and the second rectilinear zone 136b.
- the aforementioned angle substantially corresponds to the angle between the first and second portions 1 14, 1 16 of the branch 1 12, so that when the second rectilinear zone 136b is aligned with the first portion 1 14 of the branch, the first rectilinear zone 136a and the first portion 134 are aligned with the second portion 1 16 of this branch.
- the tab of the member 130 and in particular its second rectilinear zone 136b is intended to be engaged at least partly in the housing 132 above.
- the tip of the ogive of the first portion 134 of the member 130 is intended to be aligned with the tip or free end of the second portion 1 16 of the branch, as can be seen in FIG.
- the tool 1 10 can be equipped with the member 130 in the following manner.
- the tab is inserted into force in the housing 132. This step is performed by the user who lifts with the leg the sheath 1 12b located on the body 1 12a of the branch. The tab then bears on the body 1 12a of the branch and is held rigidly against this body by elastic return of the sheath 1 12b.
- the member 130 is then in the position shown in FIG.
- the tool 130 can then be used.
- the user wishes to cut the end of a clamp for example (FIG. 6)
- he positions the tool so that the end to be cut passes through the section A and the cutting edges 1 18 of the tool are correctly positioned.
- the user can see the element 120 through the member 130 which is transparent material.
- the part to be removed would have a certain length, it could, during cutting, be supported on the member 130 and force it to bend in the plane P substantially perpendicular to the section A (arrow G) .
- This elastic deformation by bending is also permitted so as not to hinder the cutting operation and the positioning of the tool.
- the member 130 is here removable and can be replaced by a new one in case of wear for example. It can easily equip other types of tool. Insofar as the tool does not include a sheath for fixing the member, it is conceivable that the member comprises fastening means such as a clamping collar. It is also conceivable that the member is permanently mounted on the tool. It is also possible that it is retractable from a position of use to a row position.
