Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a loading system for emptying a container into a collector. Such a container relates in particular to a refuse bin. The collector is for instance placed on a vehicle, such as a refuse truck, in which the contents of containers/bins are collected.
- Known in practice are loading systems whereby refuse bins, i.e. waste bins, are emptied into a refuse truck. The containers are here raised using a loading seat and then tilted into an opening of the collector. Such loading systems are usually provided on the rear side of the refuse truck. A lifting system, i.e. a lifting and tilting mechanism, provides for the gripping of the container by the loading system and the subsequent movement for emptying the container into the collector.
- The refuse trucks with the collector used in practice can be provided with different chassis dimensions and overall heights. These differences require separate mounting of components of the loading system, including screens and lighting. This further requires additional operations for mounting and removal for the purpose of for instance maintenance. Such a conventional loading system also requires an embodiment dependent on chassis type.
- An additional problem relates to the limited flexibility for conventional loading systems. A loading system can thus in practice for instance be employed in different situations. When domestic refuse is collected in residential areas there are usually speed bumps and other elements which impede traffic, which makes demands of the mounting of the loading system, for instance in respect of the height thereof, so as not to damage the loading system. Other uses are for instance industrial uses, wherein this problem is less prevalent and elements can be placed at a desired height, for instance for safety. Such conventional loading systems are not flexible in use and are not properly able to specifically handle particular conditions of use. This limits the effectiveness of these systems in a negative sense.
- The present invention has for its object to provide a loading system whereby the above stated problems are obviated or at least reduced, such that a container can be emptied into a collector in effective manner.
- This object is achieved with a loading system according to the invention, wherein the loading system is configured to empty a container into a collector and wherein the loading system comprises:
- at least one lifting system configured to lift a container;
- a side guard for laterally guarding the lifting system, wherein the side guard is provided with a movable part; and
- a guide for moving the movable part of the side guard substantially in a vertical direction, wherein the movable part of the side guard can be releasably attached to the loading system at a desired height.
- By providing a lifting system which is configured to lift a container, particularly a bin such as a waste bin, the container can be picked up. A lifting and tilting movement can then be performed with the lifting system of the loading system. The lifting system is preferably provided for this purpose with a pick up comb or other gripping means which grips the container, for instance directly beneath the edge of a container. The drive of the lifting mechanism can take a mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical form. The drive can also be a combined drive. In one of the currently preferred embodiments the lifting movement is realized with the lifting system using a first hydraulic drive cylinder and the specific tilting movement is realized by a second hydraulic drive cylinder. Alternative drives are expressly possible according to the invention.
- Providing a side guard comprising a movable screen part for laterally guarding the lifting system achieves that safety is guaranteed during emptying of a container. The side guard thus for instance prevents persons being able to walk around the refuse truck and to enter the operating area of the lifting system of the loading system. This side guard is preferably mounted on the sides of the loading system as seen in the direction of travel of the refuse truck on which the loading system is mounted.
- The loading system according to the invention further comprises a guide. By providing this guide at least the movable part of the side guard can be moved in a substantially vertical direction, wherein the side guard can be releasably attached to the loading system at a desired height. Attaching the side guard to the loading system using a guide makes it possible to adapt the mounting height of the side guard in simple manner to dimensions of the refuse truck in respect of chassis type and overall height. It is further possible here to mount the side guard at a height adapted to the specific use of the loading system. In use of the loading system of a refuse truck intended for collecting domestic refuse in residential areas provided with speed bumps and other elements which impede traffic, the side guard can for instance be mounted slightly higher in simple manner by moving it over the guide. Damage to the side guard as a result of speed bumps, kerbs, posts and the like is hereby avoided.
- By providing such a side guard with movable part a guard can further always be provided at a desired height for the purpose of optimal safety, irrespective of the attachment points of the loading system on the refuse truck. A functional and safe operation of the side guard can hereby be ensured for diverse chassis types and overall heights of refuse trucks.
- In an advantageous preferred embodiment according to the present invention the side guard is provided with a control panel for the loading system.
- Also providing the side guard with a control panel achieves that the control panel is mounted at a desirable working height for the user of the loading system in simple manner. By providing the guide for the side guard, to which the control panel is preferably attached, the mounting height of the control system is independent of the attachment points of the refuse truck for the purpose of the loading system. An ergonomic operating position for the user of the loading system is hereby ensured in practice, irrespective of the embodiment of the refuse truck.
- The side guard is preferably also provided with lighting. Providing the side guard with lighting enables the lighting to be placed at the desired height in effective manner. The height of the lighting is here independent of the chassis type and overall height of a refuse truck or other vehicle on which the loading system according to the invention is arranged.
- The side guard is further preferably provided with a transparent screen part, preferably on the movable part thereof. Providing a transparent screen part in the side guard, wherein the side guard is height-adjustable, achieves that this screen part, also referred to as inspection window, can be brought to an effective height. Providing a transparent screen part in the side guard makes it possible for the user to maintain a view of the sides of the loading system, for instance while a refuse truck moves around a residential area, wherein a user stands on a footboard of the loading system. Safety is hereby further increased.
- In a currently preferred embodiment the side guard is provided with the above stated components of the control panel, lighting and transparent screen part. The different advantages are hereby combined, and an effective and currently preferred embodiment according to the invention is obtained.
- In an advantageous preferred embodiment according to the present invention the guide comprises a guide rod along which or over which at least the movable part of the side guard can be moved.
- Providing a guide rod achieves an effective guiding for the side guard. The guide can hereby be moved in a substantially vertical direction in simple manner.
- The side guard is preferably provided with mounting means for fixing the movable part of the side guard to or on the guide or the loading system. Fixing of a side guard can for instance be performed with a clamping mechanism on the guide, for instance the guide rod. In another and currently preferred embodiment the mounting means comprise a number of mounting bolts. The movable part of the side guard can hereby be fixed to the loading system in effective manner by means of a bolt connection. A robust connection is hereby obtained.
- In a further advantageous preferred embodiment according to the present invention the movable part of the side guard is adjustable over a length in the range of 0.3 to 1.5 m, preferably in the range of 0.4 to 0.7 m.
- Enabling the adjustment of at least the movable part of the side guard in said ranges enables an effective mounting at a desired height of the side guard in the loading system according to the present invention, wherein a correct mounting of the side guard, and the control panel, lighting and transparent screen part preferably connect thereto, is obtained irrespective of chassis type and overall height.
- The invention further relates to a refuse truck provided with a loading system as described above.
- Such a vehicle provides the same effects and advantages as described for the loading system.
- The refuse truck is particularly provided on the rear side with a loading system. By making use of the loading system according to the invention the refuse truck acquires a more effective operating time in that less maintenance is required as a result of damage to the side guard. This increases the utility of the refuse truck and reduces maintenance costs. The ergonomic conditions for the user are further improved, and safety also remains guaranteed in practice during use of the refuse truck.
- The invention further also relates to a method for mounting a side guard on a loading system, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a loading system and/or refuse truck in one of the embodiments as described above;
- determining the desired height for the movable part of the side guard;
- setting the movable part of the side guard to the desired height along or on the guide of the loading system; and
