Vorteilhaft ist die Absaugvorrichtung derart ausgebildet, dass sie das jeweilig aus der Beschickungsöffnung ausströmende Medium in einem solchen Maß einfängt und von dieser derart wegtransportiert, dass durch das Medium unerwünschte Beeinträchtigungen in der äußeren Umgebung der Geschirrspülmaschine weitgehend vermieden sind. Sie reduziert oder unterbindet insbesondere, dass das jeweilige aus der Beschickungsöffnung ausströmende Medium weiter nach oben zu einer Küchenarbeitsplatte und/oder zum Kopfbereich eines vor der Geschirrspülmaschine stehenden Benutzers in zu Beeinträchtigungen führender Weise aufsteigt. So kann insbesondere weitgehend vermieden werden, dass es zu einem Auskondensieren und Niederschlag von Feuchtigkeit am der Geschirrspülmaschine benachbarten Küchenmöbel, insbesondere an der Unterseite einer die Geschirrspülmaschine oben überdeckenden Küchenarbeitsplatte, kommen kann. Vor der Türdichtung sind zweckmäßigerweise die ein oder mehreren Absaugöffnungen im vorderen Randbereich des Spülbehälters vorgesehen. Bevor Dampf und/oder feuchtheiße Luft aus dem Innenraum des Spülbehälters nach oben durch den Türspalt schlagartig austreten kann, wenn die Tür um einen Öffnungsspalt von ihrer Schließstellung in eine Öffnungsstellung gebracht wird, wird dieser mittels Absaugmittel weggesaugt bzw. weggelenkt. Somit ist weitgehend vermieden, dass Dampf und/oder feuchtheiße Luft am gegenüber dem Spülbehälterinnenraum kälteren Küchenmöbel entlangstreichen und dort auskondensieren kann.
